So did he say he's done hunting for the season? If he would willingly break the AR law, what if he shoots 3-4 more bucks? That could begin to impact the hunting on your place depending on the size of the ranch.

After our exchange, he just drove off. I've got a feeling he won't be sharing any more of his hunting exploits with me, so I won't have any idea what he will be up to.
Thank you...thank you very much

This is definitely tough...not because the issue is a difficult one because frankly he needs to be reported...anyone can make a mistake but based on what he told you this was no mistake...the tough part as others have said is him knowing or finding out you reported him. If he is that kind of guy then he probably wouldn't think twice about destroying your property etc and that is what makes this tough. Unless you can afford pretty expensive surveillance equipment you are probably better off not reporting it or doing so by placing an anonymous tip.

Would you drop a dime on one of your neighbors if you had proof they killed an illegal buck in an AR county? Curious as to what others think. One of mine shot a yearling 8 point, and bragged to me about it. I choose NOT to turn him in. We are on good terms, although we certainly aren't running buddies. I did point out to him that it was illegal, and his response almost made me rethink my decision. He told me he "didn't care", and would "shoot whatever he wanted too." Like to hear others thoughts. You must have talked to my Brother-in-Law (I don't claim him, but with marriage you get 'family'). Never buys a license, never gives back to the land or animals by feeding, planting, etc, just TAKES. Always shoots an illegal deer (justifies that by saying "He just wants the meat". Often wounds deer and can't find them. I've 'called him on this several times', doesn't phase him in the least. I've resisted turning him in thus far. And I know lawfully and morally the case in clear (I should). Its a shame that some folks just can't/won't follow the rules. But he has a rich history of making bad decisions. I do my best to avoid any contact with him. I would let your BIL know that he's been warned and you won't let additional violations go unreported. I'd let the family know that he's been given fair warning. Then it's on him if he does it again. JR His Parents (Upon which land he hunts) know. They willingly turn a 'blind eye' to it (and other things he does). He and I don't get along at all...and it would be viewed as an effort on my part to 'start trouble'. I've expressed my disappointment for them making excuses and exceptions for him on this and various other things. It just puts everyone in a bad position.

This is the biggest BS comment I think I've seen on here. That's how things like the shootings in Chicago keep going on.

Tough call....I have had nieghbors I would have called the game warden right in front of as soon as I snapped the picture, and I have had nieghbors I would not report but would let them know I don't approve and don't really care to be privy of the info. As far as that goes I have a POS brother I would drop a dime on in a hurry and other brothers I would hold their secrets forever.

If he was bold enough to show you and brag about it then chances are extremely high he has done the same to other folks....doesn't sound like y'all are all buddy-buddy pals so I'm pretty confident others know as well....
People like that have a hard time keeping their mouth shut....which makes it all that much frustrating that they keep getting away with crap like that....

I would call the GW and talk with him about your concern of retribution from him. They could approach him in a way that wouldn't out you.

Maybe he will post up pics on some platform. I had a friend on Facebook post a buck he killed Thanksgiving morning. The deer was close, and for some reason he posted a picture with a tape measure across him that appeared to measure 13", but it looked like he pushed the tape a little more than "inside". I saw him at the store the next Monday and and congratulated him on his buck. He told me 2 people called the warden on him. Now, I personally feel that is sorry, but I guess not everybody does.

Im a buck tootling through the woods and these crazy hunters already have their tape measures in their pockets to measure my antlers that were actually created to protect my dominance within the herd and Im only another notch on these ahole hunters gun stocks. What has this planet come too? Now they are worried about a quarter of an inch. Ohh $#!t

If this guy has no respect for the law, then he has no respect for you or your land in all likelihood. Don't be surprised if you end up catching him on your side of the fence one of these days.

I own 320 acres and the landowner to the west leases his land for cattle (800 acres). This guy then sub leases the hunting to some guys from Fort Worth. I have 2 year round protein feeders, 4 food plots and 4 feeders. I manage my property for deer and other wildlife. Over the years we have seen some improvement to our deer herd. The problem was as soon as one of the young bucks jumped the fence they shot him. We are under AR's and these guys kept showing me their bucks and I kept telling them they weren't legal and they were going to get in trouble. I also told them we were trying to let them get some age on them and we could have some good bucks if they would let them walk for another year or two. They always had a reason, Grandma, my Wife, the kids, my Brother, whoever only had a few days to hunt and wanted to kill something. Well after a couple of years I finally called the game warden, told them where their camp was, gave him the combination to the lock and ask him to look In on them. Well he did and this year they are gone, no one hunting over there at all, good for us. Breaking the law is breaking the law, turn them in and let the game warden handle it. Good luck hunting, going to bed and going to hunt in this brutally cold weather in the morning!!!!!
