During yesterday morning's hunt , I was taking pics of a nice 8 pt eating oats along with a couple smaller bucks and 8 does/yearlings/fawns.

I looked back to my left down a lane behind me and there he was...just stepping out into the lane! I had my windows closed on that side so the NE wind wouldn't carry my scent down that way. I took a quick glance through the binocs and I saw brow tines forever (8-9 inches) and he was at least 20 wide with long beams. His left G2 was sheared off from fighting. He's easily the largest buck ever killed on our place. Best score to date is mid 130s.

I move to get the window open and start working my rifle through the window and get settled in to fire and he casually walks through the 12 yd opening never to return. He even had two does with him that returned from the direction they came so I thought he might double back to stick with them but no luck.

Anyhow, the point of my post is this is the first time the old heart started racing bc of a buck in years! Glad to see I still get "it!"

Back at it this morning hoping he comes back around. The rifle is laying on the shooting boards pointed that direction. I fear that was my only shot at him. It is the only time I've ever seen him and my FIL has never seen him and he's out here daily. Lastly, I heard a shot at the ranch next door this morning and I haven't heard them shoot in years. I pray that he's still on the hoof out there if for nothing else to spread his genes...I love me some long brow tines!

Hope so. It's dead out here today. Saw 9 passing through at daybreak and 1 since.

I want more cold weather!

You saw 10 deer today, and that's dead? Must be nice.
