Wondering if anyone is loading any sub sonic rounds for their 308. Powder and bullet choices.

I was loading 200 gr smk with 10.7 grs of trail boss for my 18" bolt gun. But you need to find the correct powder charge for your barrel length.

I tried 168 gr AMax but from a Browning ABolt they would not stabilize so ended up with 150gr Sierra flat nose made for 30-30 ammo. That worked well also with Trail Boss. So pay attention to twist rate of your rifle.

150 - 180 gr round noses with Trail Boss yield the best accuracy in my rifle. The subs are great for teaching or kids to have fun, but for hunting full power loads provide more reliable terminal results.

A lot of bullet stabilization with subs has to do with the base of the bullet and angle of the boattail if there is one. Flat base bullets wirk well and some boat tails can work while othrrs will not. Chad has made some good posts on that in the past

Thanks, shooting Remington AAC 20". Haven't made up my mind if I want to try subs yet. Have a good load with 150gr SST's. A bud is trying to talk me in to the sub. I like having one load and with my can it's pretty quiet. Accuracy is also great.

I use a 200 grain bullet from Outlaw State Bullets. Expands at sub velocity. Pricey. Trail Boss
