I just recieved an email stating I drew Unit2. If anyone has any advice I will listen.
IF unit 2 is pretty similar to 7:
The grass was high. We hunted from a popup blind, and the first afternoon we had it located on a site that was too flat, and all we could see was the grass. When we moved it to a spot where the elevation was more favorable, we could see better.
This property is basically 100% off limits to day-use type people. It only exists for the GC warbler, so when you're in there, remember that you're hunting genuinely wild deer with limited interactions with people.
It has been burned off over the years, and on unit 7 there were a million foot-high cedar stumps in that waist-deep grass. If deer retrieval is going to be a problem for you, take an ATV to go get it from the field to your vehicle. We were a good ways "in the boonies" and had a long drag with the deer. You will not be able to drive a pickup off of the road without damaging it.
you cannot have bait or corn in your vehicle, period. You will get a ticket. You can use scents, but nothing that a deer can put in their mouth. You also cannot have alcohol in any shape form or fashion on the refuge, even if locked up in your pickup.
Unit 2 is in Burnet county. there are antler restrictions.
good luck
