Well Gents, I'm ready for an update. I'm hoping to head out to the property this week to check cameras and fill feeders. Anybody been seeing anything good?

Nice deer. I'll be filling feeders and setting up cameras around the first of September. Right now, it's too dang hot to mess with even going there.

Bucks are starting to show up on my place. Few of them will be good next year. Hoping something better comes along soon.

Nice buck in that last pic. I went out a few weeks ago to fill feeder on Sunday. Feed store closed and walmart wasn't carrying corn yet. Planning to go out next week to set up camera's, move blinds and fill feeders. So ready for the season.

I hunt near Capps Corner and in the past, we've seen a lot of really nice bucks but this year is different, the pigs have taken over. So much so that I had to add hog panels after they destroyed my feeder and caught sleeping in my pin during the night. Anyways, I feed corn and protein but activity has been weak. Any updates on deer/buck activity near Capps Corner?

We are SW of Nocona and run 3 cams right now and feeders. All thats coming is hogs. We have killed around 20 so far this year. I will get the hog fenced feeders going in a few weeks and see what we got.

I pulled the camera's yesterday and the buck activity has really picked up by the lake. Until about a week ago I had the same report as many of you. They are coming out pretty good now, traveling in the bachelor groups. I will post pics as soon as I can. The fawns are growing and look healthy, and as far as I can tell all are accounted for as well.

That's great to hear. I'll be heading out this week to check cards and repair a feeder.

Great looking pics Aggieman, what area do you hunt up there?

Update: The hog panels have performed perfectly... so far, no pigs, just deer and the pesky coons. As of right now though, just doe's and a couple small basket racks. I am feeding corn (5 seconds in morning and evening), protein, and I just laid out some rice bran to see if it will bring them in.

Anyone else have any strategies?

Man, it is just luck for us up there. How many acres do you have? We are on 1,100. Our biggest older deer might visit a feeder once all season and you just have to be there. I watch does walk right by our feeders all the time. All ours we take are right at 120 inch 3 to 4 year olds. We get bigger ones on cam but only once during rut between week before Thanksgiving and first week in Dec. Other areas are better up towards the river. Last year we only took one buck with 5 hunters. They stay in the thick brush so hard to hunt other methods besides stands.

Friend of mine got on a big ranch 6,000 acres up there couple years ago that hadn't been hunted for years. They took a bunch of big 145 to 170 inch deer. It was impressive. Last year nothing. Maybe the drought years finally showed up in the herd since those deer they shot would have been born pre-drought. We shot 3 nice ones same year. They shot them all or something. Water was very scarce until 2015. Land doesn't support taking trophys every year unless you have a lot of land and let them grow. Should only get better going forward hopefully.

The bucks have still been hanging around and as of Labor Day weekend have gone hard horn. I'm getting excited about the season. Hogs have been really bad as well.

Got to a late start this year. Started to toss corn and protein by early August. Checked cameras a few weeks ago and there were doe hitting the corn - no bucks as of yet. Will go out this weekend and check again. Hopefully will see something soon otherwise, I'll be kicking myself for not feeding year round.

We have doe only and a few young bucks as well and they just started showing. We feed year round at 2 feeders and deer will not hit them April to August. Same way every year. We run another 6 feeders late Sept to Feb.

Ever since the cool (80's weather) front came through a couple weeks ago from the Hurricane, we've been seeing the bucks finally come back out. I was scared for a little while but it's been so hot, I don't blame them for staying sheltered in the woods.

Seems like the whole area is getting sick of the amount of pigs taking over. I used have 20-30 sals and piglets in my feeder at a time, literally sleeping in my feeder. You have to put up hog panels. Ever since they tore up my feeder and pin, I put up hog panels and they've disappeared. Deer can now eat peacefully without pigs scaring them off.

I don't mind a few pigs, but when they run in packs of 30, they become obnoxious and destructive. I don't have time to hunt them at night either so this seemed like the next best solution.

This is a picture of pigs right after the destroyed my feeder that was standing where they are laying.

Now, the pigs can't get in whatsoever. (1) T-post driven in every 8 feet.

No, I'm all low fence. I've been fortunate the last couple of seasons with the quality in the area. But i have a major hog problem as well. I have panels up around my feeders (half height) and in the past few weeks an old sow has figure out how to hop on over. It almost seems like those pesky deer keep trying to eat my pig feed

All of Montague has a huge hog problem. I only hunt our penned feeders in November. Whatever reason the hogs finally move on by December with only a few sticking around. Guess they hit the wheat then. Same story every year. Then they come back with a vengeance in April.

Yeah last few years I've had a few hogs show up on camera but nothing too concerning. Checked the cameras this past weekend and found a bunch just starting to hit one of my feeders. I'll have go take care of them this weekend or next. Good news is that I'm seeing bucks finally show up, a few shooters.
