So I am getting to the point where I want a handgun with me while hunting. Mostly for hogs and what not
I am debating between a 10mm glock 20/40 or a rosssi ranch hand in like 44mag
Rossi is harder to carry but far more powerful. Right now I am leaning towards the glock 20 as it the smallest and easy to carry
Any other handguns to consider?

Either will be fine, but I don't know why people are so afraid of hogs. Unless you corner them, they are running away from you if you jump a sounder. And they are very likely to be running away before you even get close to them. The only animals I'm worried about out there is snakes.

Truth be told it's more offensive for hogs. I am not afraid of them attackinng as much
I would use it on snakes too

I just bought a Ruger LCR in .22 LR to carry with me mainly for snakes. Snubbies are so easy to carry I would go that route, JMO.

I think that Glock 10 mm is a good plan. If money were no object, I'd love to have a 1911 in 10 mm, just because I'm a 1911 fan. I've thought about a Glock 10mm myself because they're more affordable, certainly reliable, and I "need" at least one 10mm.

I take my short barreled Ruger Blackhawk with .44 Special snake loads, Heavy cast bullets for close in Deer, etc..

I carry a 1911 in 38 Super anytime I am hunting. My son carries a G19. The biggest issue is carrying the extra weight around on your belt all day, especially if you are stalking and walking several miles. We solved that issue to a large extent by purchasing thigh holsters. They put the weight lower and also are easier on the pistol when you decide to sit down on a rock pile. I have also used a chest holster but I don't like it as well. I'm not so much concerned about being attacked by whatever I'm hunting as I am about the people who frequent the woods nowadays. You never know who are are going to run into out there.

I am Not a glock fan at all. Personnly I would look at the sig 220 if money was no object I take my short barreled Ruger Blackhawk with .44 Special snake loads, Heavy cast bullets for close in Deer, etc.. Not sure how short barrel that is...

Carry 45 in shoulder holster, when setting in chair in blind it don't restrict you. Sometimes the 9.

4-5/8 barrel, does look longer in the picture
I usually have in a holster and throw it in my back pack. Its not my primary weapon when I'm hunting.
I like the thigh holster idea though.

I carry a 45 for conceal carry and that is just fine for a hunting backup. Its for people not hogs but I would like to be able to shoot a hog with the pistol this year. That means sneaking up close.

Love my G20. With tru glo sights and box of ammo, ..it's certainly not cheap.

another vote for .357, cheaper to shoot than 10mm or 44, and they also have shot shells available for snakes.
The only thing flat earthers have to fear is sphere itself

Go with the 10mm. I did. Glock 20 Gen 3.
Carried 44 mag for over 30 years. Full power reloads. I could shoot it.
Lots of hogs and thick brush. Even some Javelina. Kinda seems like 15+1 and lighter recoil, with some serious authority, made sense.
165 gr @ 1256 fps. Plenty of power. And don't wait to be the 'exception' and have one run at ya! A large wild boar is dangerous, moreover when its pressed or wounded. Like said, most of the time they'll run. Smart thinking.

I used to agree that if you encountered pigs that they would be running the opposite way and would be gone by the time you got there. Checking a trap last year two pigs were outside the trap and I didn't see them. Pulled the 4 wheeler within 10 yrds of the trap and they never moved. As soon as I got off one ran the opposite way, one ran right at me. I shot at it with my pistol and either missed/and or didn't kill it but at least it went the opposite way from me after that. The stories of hogs charging people are true and they don't just have to be cornered. You might just surprise them.

Just as important to me is the holster I carry my Glock 22 in. The Guides Choice holster from Diamond D Leather in Alaska is kinda pricy but worth it. Gun is secure, out of the way and accessible. Only time I've used it is to finish off a hog that was still kicking.

Still makes me nervous walking around in the dark unarmed. You shouldn't ever get in a situation where you are in close quarters with them but it isn't out of the question.
