although I hunted without binoculars for years, those come in handy but not mandatory. A sharp knife would be my first choice if I had to pick just one thing past gun & ammo.

I would have to say a good whet rock and steel.
Is that 100 yards max with a bow? Most folks are better off with a modern sharpener. Even people who think they know how to use a whet stone or a steel, really don't. How can you think you know how to use a stone and not? It'll either shave or it won't.

I've found a Jet Sled to be invaluable around the camp and dragging in deer/hogs/wood.

In todays day and age I think we aught to be making a list of things deer hunters don't need... Gun ammo and a knife will get most of what needs doing done.

How can you think you know how to use a stone and not? It'll either shave or it won't. I've worked in kitchens for 12 years. I've seen more people dull a knife with a steel than sharpen one.

JR I think I'll get one of those this year. Last year I shot a small doewhen it was too wet to drive my truck on our place. Had to drag/firemans carry that doe 1000 yards to the truck. It was rough.

You can use your hunting license in case you get lost. Just pull it out and burn it. After it completely goes up in smoke, a game warden will appear and ask to see it.

A tip is to thread the cord thru a couple 6" strips of cut garden hose. The hose will prevent the cord from cutting into your hands if you're pulling the sled by hand. Hopefully you won't need to pull it much by hand and can just attach it to a 4 wheeeler or Gator. JR

But I hunt in the back corner, and have to park in the front corner when it's too wet.
