I tried three loads today in a Savage 1:10 24" barrel and had great success with 150gr Sierra, 43.5gr Varget, Win LR primer(pic below). I also tried 150gr Nosler BT, 43.5gr Varget, Win LR primer and had a really nice group, but it was 3"-4" to the right of the bullseye just off the paper. I know each load will vary, but I've never had one go off the paper. It's not the gun, scope, or shooter just this particular load. Has anyone experienced this before? Finally, my 168gr AMAX group was not impressive. Do any of you have an AMAX/Varget pet load you're willing to share? Thanks in advance.

Not uncommon for zero to shift with a different load.
168 A-Max, 43.5 to 46.0 of H-Varget. Start low, work up. If you see pressure signs, stop shooting the test loads.

Thanks. I'll play with the AMAX more.

Nothing to add with the AMAX, but in the 150 gr weight, I just got some SSTs and found my accuracy node. Tried "a better bullet" with the Accubond and like you, I never could find a good group. But I'm not sure I'd notice a difference between an economical load like an SST over a more expensive projectile on deer at the practical ranges I'm likely to shoot, and I'm also pretty positive the deer (or hog) won't notice either. Hard to beat the Sierra (or SST) for the price. I suggest you stay with the Sierra. Here's my load: 150 gr SST, 43.9 gr Varget, Lake City Long Range (LR) brass, and CCI primer.

I will stay with the Sierra for a hunting round, but I can't help myself trying out a few other loads. I hope to get lucky and find a heavier projectile that is also accurate.

Ladder test it - every gun shoots each load different. If velocity is your goal... you may need to ladder test several bullets to find one that shoots hot tight groups.
My previous barrel loved Barnes LRX. This barrel likes them... but only when loaded really slow.
I'm shooting 190 accubonds right now bc they shoot well hot.
