So it was a low fence deer? I would like to know this as well? Not that anyones knocking a high fence place. It would be awesome knowing if that was a free range native deer. That's my thought as well on a beautiful buck , that is one that i would take with out a doubt !

Here are a few pics of my 8 point I took in Cross Plains with my bow Oct 3. He scored 164 4/8 with almost 16 g2's and a 12 and 14 inch g3. High fence? Really? What difference does it make? The man killed a helluva buck and is very proud of him. Really? It makes a big difference. That buck has an asss like a donkey. I've never seen a native deer like that around Cross Plains. Ditto. This deer is the grand daddy of 8 points. I have access to some country all around Cross Plains. My fist thought was,....WOW, is that a free range deer? Yes, it does make a huge difference. It would give me a little more hope and encouragement to hunt more often in that general area if I knew deer got that big in that area (lived long enough). On the other hand, if he was in a high fence, it really doesn't matter what area he was killed in. It is a Completely different ball game.

I can pay a compliment.
Congrats that's one hell of a buck something the majority of us will dream of our whole lives and never achieve! much less with a bow.
Don't make a hill of beans to me weather it was 10 foot hf, HF like Dons, low fence, or no fence, but I would be curious to know if it was on a HF place or not. No judgement passed, who am I to judge, just plain simple curiosity. If insult was taken by the op then he needs to decide if how he hunts is ok with him.
It's hell eatin em live

First of all, congrats on the toad. Hell of a buck.
To all those getting upset at the HF/LF question, its a completely legit question. I would like to know the answer. I hunt near there and would love to know that there could be this dudes offspring running around. If it was a 220" typical buck you all would want to know hf or not. Its not bashing the deer or HF when the question is asked. Just curious.

Also, this got me wondering if any breeders specifically try to grow ginormous 8 points. Would be interested to see the biggest

Yes I did kill him at a 3000 acre HF ranch. But I can tell you I've hunted quite a few LF ranches that were a lot easier hunting than this place was. You didn't just shake a can of corn and have deer come up to you and pick the one you wanted. We hunted for several days before we got him. Even after I killed the deer we rode around and the deer wouldn't let you get within 400-500 yards of them before they took off. I knew the question would come up about it being a HF or not and it really doesn't bother me one way of the other. I was proud of the deer and wanted to show everyone here him it's not every day you get a chance at a 160 class deer especially not a 160 class 8 point. I live eat and breathe deer hunting and hunt just as hard as all of you. I hope everyone here gets them a monster this year and can post it on here for all to see whether it's HF LF or whatever you decide. Have a great and successful hunting season.
whatever you are be a good one

I don't think anybody's taking anything away from it being a HF place. If I could afford to HF our place I would. I know just because it's a HF doesn't mean its fish in a barrel. I know of some guys that have tried to kill a deer in a 600 acre pasture for 3 yrs! Congratulations on a monster 8 point! HF/LF still a great deer!

Nice buck! There's quite a few whiners on here that are ashamed of hunting inside of a high fence. Anytime a question is asked about how a deer is killed they throw a tantrum. Maybe Fouzman should stick to the fishing forum where he can get someone moderated if they say something he doesn't like. I was also informed that there are also plenty of giant deer in Callahan County. I have just never opened my eyes. I'm glad Fly67 brought that to my attention. Keep up the killing!

Get someone moderated I hunt both inside and outside of a high fence. Not ashamed of either. Maybe you should try being less of a smartarse. It's unbecoming of a man. And since you know all about the deer in Callahan County, it would appear as if you knew the deer couldn't have come from a low fence. Again, congratulations to the OP. That's one helluva 8 point.

Congrats to the OP on a fantastic 8pt buck.
I hunted Callahan County low fence for 7 years, the biggest buck that I have seen in Texas was on that lease at least one morning. Tine length was about the same as the buck in this thread but he was a 10pt. I only saw him one time and it was from further than I would take the shot under the conditions that morning. Body weight was not as good as that buck but range conditions were not what they are now either and it was late season.
