My Dad and I recently drew a hunt in November at White Oak Creek WMA east of Mt. Pleasant. This is our first time to be selected. After acquiring 5 loyalty points in this category it was exciting to finally be selected.
I plan on calling the WMA office tomorrow but I was hoping some fellow members here could provide some input here about the area, primitive camping and if you can bring a camper? Deer report and if any one has taken any bruisers off of this place..

I hunted there probably 8 years ago. Hopefully your experience will be better than ours. Never saw a deer and left early. Final straw was when some local fella came driving thru our compartment on a 4 wheeler ... with a rifle.
Wish I had some useful info for you.

I was also drawn, mine is for the first weekend. I have been trying to find out the compartment hunting works. How do you know where to scout if you don't know what compartment you are assigned?

We go the week after you do. I'm calling tomorrow morning to try to gain some info. Let me know if you hear anything. And good luck!

Nice campground behind headquarters, no problem getting a camper in. Hunt East of 259 and you should be ok. Born and raised hunting the area long before it became WO. There are deer but it is east texas and can be tough.
Talent is a gift, character is a decision.

You will be assigned an area to hunt. To my knowledge the only camping area is as mentioned off of 259. It is a huge place over 20k acres. I duck hunt it. You need to talk to the managers to see what section you are drawn to hunt. It could be anywhere from the Marietta area to across Interstate thirty. Have you received your manual from them?

Pretty sure the pot plantation was on Cooper WMA Actually both. I had forgotten about the Cooper bust. They didn't catch anyone on the White Oak WMA just found the plants. It could have been longer ago than I remember. They had been living out there and cultivating them. How the heck the didn't bust anyone I'll never know.

I've hunted there several times over the years on drawn permit hunts, standby permits and APH bow hunting. Typical pineywoods hunting. I've hunted compartments all over the WMA.Best advice I can give is to load up your backpack with enough food and water and stay in the woods from sunup to sundown. If you hit it during the peak of the rut, deer should be moving all day. After that it's just a matter of being lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.

We hunted there last year, drawn on a youth hunt. There are lot's of compartments, and it seemed like a quite a few people showed up to hunt stand-by, and I think everyone got to hunt. It was really wet, so some of the areas were closed off.
We camped in a tent, but you should be able to get a camper to the parking lot near the campground, if nothing else.
We hunted compartment 4, which was a good 30 minutes from the check station. We only saw 2 deer, and 2 groups of 6-8 hogs. We sat in an oak bottom, and could see pretty well, but the animals moved through faster than we could get my son on them. No baiting, so you have to be ready to shoot
