Your vehicle have a gas leak? Deer dont care if you are walking in or drive car, a mature buck will spook no matter what and human scent is worse. They see vehicles all the time unless you are in the middle of nowhere. Thats why you drive to a point and then walk unless you are talking about 20 acres. Have a large lease and more than one member you have to drive to a point. I rather teleport to the blind.

My place has almost no vehicle traffic. I understand each place is different and driving may not be an issue on many places.

One place in south tx we never even get out of the buggy. Just corn the road, park and wait on shooting light. Jump out with the shooting sticks and boom. I wish it was that easy everywhere I hunted. on second thought it might take some of the fun out of it.
Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.

During deer season, I never move the truck from my cabin until the day I leave. I hunt virgin river bottom that sees no vehicle traffic near the river for a 1/2 mile in the closest direction and at least 3 miles in the other direction. Deer are more likely to hear a boat on the river than a vehicle
My closest stand is a 1/4 mile walk, if the wind is right, a 1/2 mile if I loop around due to the wind. The stand right on the river bank is little over 3/4 mile walk. That may require waders if we have had a lot of rain.
I only drive back to fill feeders on the day I am leaving, after the last hunt.
When hunting pigs, I'm not nearly that worried about driving around.

I WALK. Why would i want gasoline scent on my clothing or anywhere near my hunting spot? It comes down to what they are accustomed to seeing and smelling. The same reason that deer eat from the side of the road or walk up to my bedroom window. We open our blind windows and try to drive daily to feeders and walk around them the month or so before season. We always get get good deer, compared to the guys that try to stay away from a blind at all cost before season and complain that their are easily spooked.

The smell of gasoline is more potent than damn near anything, just because you can't smell it i promise you a deer can. Just sitting in your vehicle contaminates your clothes with all kinds of odors one of which is probably gasoline. Now im not saying you won't still see does and small bucks, but the big boys won't be coming around. Im an old school type hunter though, i take every precaution i can, its part of the fun to me. Plus walking is good exercise

I walk, about 20 miles minutes to stand. Last weekend was working all day on blinds spilled gas all over me. Decide to just sit in my blind and relax. Two bucks came to feeder and walked right by my stand. The gas talk is interesting, because I for sure thought it was way to strong. But they didn't seem to care.

It probably depends a lot on where you are hunting. I know in my experience on public land they will spook at anything and everything.

Our rancher oils the roads. Deer don't care. We hunt elevated blinds. Cow guy is there daily. In South Texas you drive and corn and deer pop out. Never heard of gas scaring deer.

Same here. I sometimes get back to the truck and there will be deer just milling around it. Cracks me up because I will sometimes throw corn out at the truck to keep the cows from following me. Guess some deer have got wise to that trick as well. i hunt 50 acres. i usually pull just inside the gate and walk 150 yards to my stand. i've been lucky so far and shot a buck every year over the 13" rule.

It really depends on the blind I am hunting but try to park as close as I can since I use a road feeder 100% of the time. Archery blinds I park from 100 to 250 yards away depending on the deer travel routes and cover to hide the Ranger. Rifle hunting it can be from 15 yards to 250 yards away depending on the travel routes and best cover to hide the Ranger. No matter where I hunt I am always feeding the roads after I have all my hunting gear in the blind. I feed roads from late August till Feb everyday. The deer are used to my routine and sometimes I have deer on corn before I can get in the deer blind. Makes it really tough in archery season if I park to far. I use the Ranger in all daily activities on my place or just to do an evening ride around. Yesterday morning I was checking a fenceline and jumped 2 4-5 yr old bucks that were bedded about 200 yards to the north of a feed pen. I had been to all the feed pens and shot 3 coons in traps at another feed pen to the east of the bucks about 30 minutes earlier. They were not the least bit alarmed due the normal daily routine they have been used to seeing for 4+ yrs now. If I was hunting out of only one elevated box blind all the time I would make me a tower that was enclosed and park inside the enclosed area under the box blind.
Are idiots multiplying faster than normal people?
