Just bought a drone with a 2 mile radius and reqistered it online with the FAA to make it legal.

Now the question is are drones allowed to be used to scout for hogs?

I k ow some people hate the idea, but I think it's great to cover large distances quickly looking for those trouble makers!

Anyone know?

I would think hogs would be ok but game animals prob not. Id give my local GW a call to make sure.

You can SCOUT anything with a drone...hogs, turkey deer.etc. You cannot arm the drone for the actual harvesting of any animal. There are some ethical or legal practices to be considered like not herding deer, interfering with migratory bird patterns and trespassing on other land.

I would check with gw before using to check deer...

If you can wrangle deer with a helicopter; shouldn't be illegal to video hogs with a drone. IMHO

I plan on getting one and using it for that purpose almost exclusively.

Being proactive with the GW (and neighbors) goes a long way.....give them a quick heads up then get after it....

Probably not a bad idea to let your GW know that you are flying a drone on a one time basis. I don't like to bother mine...I know they are busy. The only thing my GW wanted to know is if I am hog hunting at night during deer season...and he said just leave a message on his cell phone. I have a wildlife 1-d-1 and am required to maintain counts of deer. When I had the TPWD biologist out to provide some answers they said a drone is an excellent way to do it. She did say to be careful not to overfly my property lines unless I have permission from the owner. She also said that I can scout with the drone at any time during daylight hours including deer season.

I use mine all the time to check fence lines, erosion, cows, etc. It's good to find hogs and check feeders but honestly its hard to see what you're looking at sometimes and if you get close they're gone. I'm eventually going to rig up a drone with onboard thermal and possibly NV. That would be the deal right there.

Pretty neat. I have been wanting a drone. But with my luck it would lose signal and end up in a pine tree or in the middle of a slough. I definitely like the thermal that Hog Rush has.

This drone goes on GPS signal and is a 3 mile radius. You view it through your phone as you are flying it. It also giv eyou a signal update on how strong it is, gps map of where the drone it, how far it is away from you, how high it is ect. If you lose your place at anytime. press return home and it will fly up to 200 feet then go back to the gps location where it took off, and then return back down and land on its own.

You can program it to fly your property at specific heights and viewing angles or fly it manually/fpv for scouting.

I had that drone first and I returned it. the battery was only lasting 30 mins, and the video was not that clear. the $k video of the Phantom 3 was awesome and was the same price. Also the Bebop only has a 1/3 of a mile radius. the Phantom 3 4K has 3 miles.

did you upgrade antenna my phantom professional wont get close to that range

That's pretty neat, I don't think I could fly one though. Mine would need a GPS so I could find the darn thing.

I have only tested it up to 1,500 feet away. I have not got big enough balls to try 3 miles yet. LOL But that is what they claim. And its the Phantom 3 4K with the remote that comes with it. The remote connects to the drone via GPS and to your phone via wifi for video view.

It should with the standard control box. Mine goes 450 yrds which is the furthest property line...make sure you have gone thru the setup procedures step by step and have a FULLY charged battery. Also make sure you have the latest software for your iphone or ipad

With the DJI...it's easy. Not to say you won't have some control problems at first. I crashed mine a couple of times during my first flight. Like a real helicopter..take offs and landings are the most difficult. If you take your hands off the control..it will hover over that spot until you change your drawers. As you become more familiar with its operation you can program the thing to auto take off.. fly a route and come back to you and land automatically. Its got a built in GPS and if your battery gets low it automatically heads to where it took off. Having said all that...like anything mechanical and radio controlled it is subject to failures So I have a good idea of the whereabouts if it goes down.
