Well I finally got me a new lease. It is 640 acres in Hall County just south of Estelline. It is rolling terrain with alot of draws and fingers. It has mule deer and whitetail on it. This is really the first time for me hunting up in the panhandle area. Any good advice for this area would be very much appreciated. It has wheat fields all around it also. Thanks

I also hunt there my land is just north of Estelline. i found that food plots are not that easy up there ,to dry. If you want to spend the money soybean or peanuts do well they can withstand the drought. The deer on my place come in all hours of the day ,even in the wide open space that i have.they come in to eat the cottin bulbs when they are ready so any food you put out up there is a great find for them .Is your land terraced? If so you may want to think about tower blinds to see over them. I have had deer walk right down the other side of them from me and never saw them until it was to late. One more thing WATCH THE SNAKES they are every place.

Thanks granite. We have alot of crp and don't know yet if we can put in any food plots, but I do plan on building some protein feeders to put out ASAP. What do you think is the best protein for that area. I am fortunate not to have cattle to worry about right now but do have some hogs.

You probaly have a lot of hogs, the CRP is good hiding area for them and you never know when on will get up, and as above do watch the snakes. I am just to the southwest of you in Turkey. Have fun and good luck.

I went up there weekends ago to look at a lease and there were plenty of hogs. I saw some pics of nice mule an whitetails shot off the lease in the last few years. Looking at surrounding lease fences and plowed fields there is evidence of lots of deer. I decided to pass on the lease since it was a good 4 1/2 hrs away and not sure what this crazy economy is gonna do but good luck and hope you get a good one.

They seem to be very scattered in our area. I see them up to the northwest where you are sometimes, but as with me they are probably not on you land. Sometimes i see big groups but not very often. Don't know if i answered your question or not with all the other bla bla, but good luck
