I love my Browning Gold Hunter 3 1/2". It shoots everything from the lightest dove loads to the heaviest goose loads with nary an issue. Extremely versatile gun.

My Beretta AL390 Silver Mallard is by far the best shotgun I have ever owned especially when you consider I got it used for $400ish and I have owned some that cost more than $3K ; Its synthetic stocked, gas operated, easy shooting and bomb proof.
The guy who had it before me was a duck guide that had it for years with a steady diet of 3" magnum steel for ducks and a lot of dove loads as well and he had never once cleaned this gun; it still functioned flawlessly but it took HOURS to clean the internals and it was back in business.
This is the same gun I shot skeet with in college and after putting a confirmed 5,000rnds of trap/skeet loads through it I sent it off to Beretta for them to check everything before we headed to San Antonio for the College Nationals trap & skeet tournament.
They sent it back with a letter saying.......
"We have inspected your shotgun and find that all parts are in spec and correctly timed; in short there is nothing in need of replacement or repair."

Love my Beretta Outlander. Never had a jam or hangup.
My brother owns the Mossberg 930 and it is a heck of a gun for the price.
Of course you can get carried away with it and spend thousands, it all depends on what you want.

I've been considering a Beretta Outlander for that same purpose. It seems to have a the right mix of quality, price, and "not made in Turkey," no one else seems to achieve.

Spend a little more and go get a good O/U. You will save a lot more money in the long run by not being able to take that third shot that will probably miss anyway.

Beretta A300, or as previously mentioned, Mossberg 930. Both have served me well and both made in USA.

I bought a Remington 1187 Premier Light Contour when I was 16 to dove hunt with, and it has been an outstanding shotgun.

11-87 Premier 12 or 1100 Skeet 28 are my go to dove guns.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

12 ga Remington 1100 Mine is wood and I paid $350 for it (used) back in the 90s. Other than needing an o-ring replacement ($0.50) one time, it has worked great.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

For the money, the Rem model 1100 is hard to beat. You can eventually wear one out. I did. The mechanism has weak points, which I eventually found, but I ran a ton of ammo through it before it started spitting parts. Probably more ammo than most of you will ever shoot.
And, gas guns are messy critters. I eventually sold my sick 1100 and bought a Rem 11 - based on the Browning humpback. Never need to clean a recoil operated shotgun.
I went duck hunting years ago, down in South Louisiana. The guides barely spoke English, preferring Cajun French. Every last one of them had a type of that Humpback shotgun. Rusty, grimy, and often used as a boat paddle, the guides told me (I think) that the guns never quit working. Mine was made in 1948. Still working.

That gun was almost a Winchester. The story goes that John Browning had the gun designed and was going to sell it to Winchester, like so many before, but some execs at Winchester were reluctant to sign a royalty deal with Browning on it. Browning got fed up and went to F.N. and gave them manufacturing rights then later negotiated manufacturing rights with Remington, who was willing to pay the royalty. The 11 eventually led to the 1149, 1100, 1187...
I know a few people that have Grampa's 11 stashed in the back of the closet.

Another vote for a Beretta A300, I love mine. I'll also throw the Benelli inertia guns out there, depending on how much you want to spend. I would have gotten a Benelli when I bought my Beretta, but I wasn't ready to spend that much on a shotgun just yet.

The one that FITS YOU the best. The brand and model is secondary.

I own a Beretta AL2 (1972), A302, 303, and all of them still work great. I only shoot dove and they all work well for that purpose.

I second booradley - go handle a couple different ones and see what feels best to you. There are lots of good brands (Benelli, Beretta, Browning, etc.) so you have plenty of options.

I know a few people that have Grampa's 11 stashed in the back of the closet. Close, JMB tried to sell it to Winchester, they refused the terms, he went to Remington only to have the president of Remington die of a heart attack before he could show him the gun. He then decided to head for Herstal and the FN plant and have them produce it for him. Then Remington negotiated to license it a few yrs later. My vote Franchi Affinity, long warranty, patterns good, available in wood or synthetic, has shims and it's lightweight.

I own twelve shotguns - Winchester, Browning, FABARM, Franchi and Weatherby, all semi's. The one thing they all have in common is the stock. DAC 1.5" DAH 2.25" LOP 14" to 14.375".
Some of them came that way. Others were adjusted with shims, or have a comb raising device, or had the stock cut down. If you get a shotgun that fits you will shoot better. I like Benelli -have owned one, and Beretta, have owned two. Unfortunately the stocks on them couldn't be altered enough on them to fit, at least for reasonable cost.
Of the newer shotguns the one that interests me the most is the Remington V3. If I can get one to fit I'll get one down the road.
Haven't hijacked a thread in a while so here goes. I was just given a CZ 720 that I will be posting for sale next week. I want to test it thoroughly before I post it.

I bought an Outlander last year. I shoot it well and it's real nice on the reconstructed shoulder.
