Went to the leas this past week-end and found the coons had got to one solar panel. They had chewed the insulation off wires coming out of the panel. Guess this caused a short as the wires were touching. Burned the wires where they connect to the battery and some others. Did not ruin the battery or The Timer. Glad they were okay.

All exposed wires on a deer feeder belong in conduit

The wires were in copper tubing, they pulled on the panel until there was maybe 1/2" of wire exposed then did their damage. Now the panel is mounted on the side of timer/ motor box which is inside a cage.

If you can, mount the solar panel directly to your control box, with the wires going directly in. Gives the coons less to mess up.

Buy the biggest vat of vasoline you can find...grease feeder legs...problem solved I read something along these lines about 2 years ago and did it...once it got hot in the summer sun, it melted and wasn't effective and every stinkin time we got near a feeder for the last two years someone has ended up with dirty vasoline all over their arm or back or somewhere. It was everywhere and nasty! I do not recommend this! Just my

If you have the opportunity to mount your panel like this, flush coon/squirrel problem "with wires" will go away. Just drill two mounting holes 3/16 & one 1/4" hole for wiring then caulk around edges with silicone. Hope that helps. If you really what to get rid coons quit hunting, I remember when I used to think coons/squirrels were cute, then I started hunting.

There have been many discussions on here about coon proofing. I have always used the 4" PVC 5' long on each leg, they don't have to be fasten just let them rest on the ground. They also stop squirrels from climbing up. I tried the Vaseline, Crisco with chillie spice mix in - the cows rub off, rain wash off, the deer didn't come around. Just my

I'd ask him if he's pregnant. He missed a s__tload of periods. I'll take "things that look like a uterus" for $200 Alex.

Im on a coon killing mission...I really only bow hunt so I shoot everyone that makes a day light appearance. I also trap them at the house on the back porch. They make me angry.
Once, I had one get inside of my cage. He did plenty of damage. I couldn't figure out why it was damage with cage on but then I saw trail cam pics...Needless to say, I replaced that cage.
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

You might wanna look into a few dukes dog proof traps, they are relatively cheap and easy to set and ive had good success with them. Marshmallows and sardines with catfood seem to attract them pretty good. They sell a little tool to help set the trap, its worth its weight in gold, makes it so much easier.

Get yourself a coon cable guard, some clips, some screws with small washers and rubber washers and drill the cord in to the side of the feeder. Then get an Eliminator spin plate. That should keep them from ripping out your cables and stop them from being able to get at your feed. Also use an adjustable hose clamp on both ends of the wire going in to your control box so they will never be able to rip it out. Those little round ones with the screw in them that come with the solar panels are horrible and are hard to get seated against the inside of the control box wall. I got some pics of a squirrel inside my varmint cage and some coons hanging off the side of it so I did this to stop them.

We use Carpeting Tack strips and bailing wire them to the legs of the feeders, that keeps them little furry turds off of the feeders for the most part. The rest we just sit out with suppressors, beer and subsonic loads waiting for them to come in and take them out one by one.

Carpet tack strips didn't work for me it seem to give the coons and squirrels a foot hold. Tried the Vaseline with red pepper cayenne and lard no good. Best results was the 4" PVC on the legs.

There was a recent comment about using Golden Malrin mixed with grape or some soft drink. Would kill them quickly. What about other larger wildlife?

Yes, I did feeders like this about 15-18 yrs ago and it worked well as long as you face the panel/feeder southwest.

There was a recent comment about using Golden Malrin mixed with grape or some soft drink. Would kill them quickly. What about other larger wildlife? It kills them before they get out of sight of the redder. But it kills indescribably. If something was the coon it will kill it. If whatever eats it spreads guts and stomach fluids around and a deer licks the grass here it will probably kill it. That is why ou should not use it. Basically it kills for a l g time.
