Man, it's been a day. Give it some time. I' would find a new blind spot or lease Moving the blind to a new spot is a really difficult prospect at this point. I've found a really good spot, improved it over the years, and have just started seeing the benefits of all that work. The view is awesome, and getting to it is easy. I'd be out close to a grand, minimum, to move the stand. As far as a new lease, that's just not an option. We've been on the same property for 16 years. There's 4 of us on it now that have been together the whole time. We've been through lousy lease members, a few break ins, a wildfire that nearly ruined it for everyone... but we're still here. And we're still paying the same dues we paid 16 years ago. I'm not leaving the lease until the landowner tells me to.

Not trying to change topic, but wish to understand. Is it proper to call Sheriff or GW? Does it depend on county?

I would do a face to face..in a calm way My buddy that was out there with me this weekend thought he saw a Jeep heading into their property, and the description he gave matched the one that the lease foreman drives. I went to their gate and it was locked. Hammered on the gate with a screwdriver to make some noise and hollared towards their camp. No response. I know where there camp is, but I didn't figure I'd start the conversation out by trespassing.

So I take it that the note you left was gone, but nobody from the lease called you?
Report it to the game warden.

No, I left the note after "knocking" on the gate. I figured I'd give it a week or so, the oil man goes through there every few days, figured he'd see the note and either pass it along to the foreman or the landowner.

The more I think about the this the more I think you should call the sheriff. This is a damn serious issue. What would have happen if someone was inside that blind? This sort of thing must not ever happen.
They make ammo specifically for hunting for a reason!

Yep, need authorities involved, unless you don't value your life.

There is law set up for shooting across fences for a reason. Ignorance is no excuse.

There is law set up for shooting across fences for a reason. Ignorance is no excuse. But I ask again, is this an issue for the GW or for a Sheriff. If someone shot into you vehicle or cabin or house, who would you call and why would a blind be different. Years ago we had some barns shot, no one seemed to care.

Went to look at a lease once. Forget where it was but it was WAY overcrowded. The "foreman" took us around to show us several blinds. 2 of them had been shot that year. When my dad asked why the eff there were bullet holes in the stands, the foreman kinda shrugged it off and said things happen. We cut the tour short and I'd contact a GW immediately.

Sheriff is just gonna say that you can't prove anyone specific shot it and to call next time there was an issue. I'd talk to them as neighbors and then call the GW and ask his advice. That way there is a precedent set in case it happens again.

You sure it wasnt a hailstone? A marble sized hailstone in a 60 mph can do a lot of damage. It looks like there is spider web from another hit above and left of the hole.

No other damage to the blind, and it's got an aluminum roof. If there was hail that big, it'd have damaged the roof.

If someone shot into you vehicle or cabin or house, who would you call and why would a blind be different. Years ago we had some barns shot, no one seemed to care. Good point. I have asked that question many times on this forum. It seems that just because you are hunting on out on some big acreage that suddenly the game warden is called for everything. A fight in camp, theft of a plasma TV, a drunk guy driving down the road past the lease. I would call the sheriff if any of those things happened at my house, the ranch or the lease. Including a bullet hole in any thing I own.

I think you did right by trying to talk to them first. Depending on their tone and response would dictate next steps. As already asked, how far is their camp from the blind?

I have not read this and maybe you have answered these questions. Where is this? How many acres? Have you done anything to provoke this? Do you know who owns or leases the place you think the shot came from?

I thought maybe there were small places around you but that doesn't seem to be the case. They probably got drunked up and goofy one day.

Had a similar issue with some kids on a neighboring lease. Long story short they shot across property lines at a doe below a blind, there was an occupant in the blind and he called the law immidietly. These kids had been running around all yr shooting like crazy bragging there daddy was a game warden. Turns out they were some sheriffs kids. Dont know if any charges ever came out of it.we did have one of our tower blinds shot, but we couldnt prove it was them.
