 Panhandle food plot ??

We hunt north of Childress and looking to plant a good plot come Sept 1. This last weekend I cleaned the area in preparation for Sept. I have some good soil and think it is a good area. Does anyone have suggestions for what to plant in that area?
God is deep but he is not complicated.

It's not very original, but gonna be hard to beat winter wheat for that area. Would suggest you plant mid September or a little later depending on weather. i have had new planters burn up when planted n early September...
Depending on the acreage, you might also think about mixing in some Austrian winter peas or zinger peas. Don't bother unless it's a bigger plot....as the deer will mow it down pretty quick if it's just a few acres...

They love young wheat, if you can get the wheat to be the size they like to coincide with the rut it will be on.
Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

I'd go with a wheat/oat blend...Ask at the local feed/seed and they will tell you what most guy's use that produces well there.. A phone call to the county ag agent will get you more info than you can write down, they will even come out and look the place over for you..FOR FREE

Think about what you're competing against.... 1000's of acres of winter wheat. First year....turnips/beets and oats, second year oats and 1/2 the turnips or beets and make up the difference in alafafa... Pretty soon your alafafa will take over, when that happens take out the turnips and just over seed in Late September with oats. Then by about year four the alafafa will start to fizzle out, go back and add turnips... It will be a cycle but your soil will get better and better.

Good advice Have some hunters that border our south fence in Collingsworth county. They put in a food plot of winter wheat 4 years ago. It is a nicely done 5 or 6 acre plot. I am sure they worked their tails off. I have seen turkey in the fall and Sandhills in the fall, but never a deer, scratch that, I see mulie does. From my stand the plot is 200 yards, problem for them is two circles of peanuts on our side. I can see 100 deer in our peanuts and they have nothing legal. Great uncle has some turnips he plants on the edge of a cotton field across the road from his house. He sits and drinks his coffee and watches the deer pour into the turnips. I would certainly think about turnips.

Winter triticale instead of wheat. Higher protein and once deer find it they tend to prefer it.
