Does anyone deer hunt with your AR-10 .308 assault rifle? I could not decide between purchasing a new deer rifle or an assault rifle so I settled on a hybrid of the two and bought a DPMS AR-10. I was wondering your thoughts with deer hunting with it. I know the trigger is poor for deer hunting. Just curious, comments welcome.

I don't own a single assault rifle. Though I have two AR platforms.
AR= Armalite Rifle
The AR in .308 makes a fine hunting rifle, you just have to be diligent at keeping the bolt, and action clean and oiled. A Timney AR trigger is a quality part to add on.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Assault_rifleOP, read up on what an "assault rifle" really is. The lamestream media and our Second Amendment opponents use the term to sound big and scary. I'm not sure if any of the shootings in the US involving so-called "assault rifles" really involved true assault rifles, meaning selective fire or full auto plus some other criteria. The press and libs like to call them military grade assault weapons

Like the others, I too have an AR10 but it's never assaulted anyone. It does make an excellent deer rifle and is deadly accurate out to 600 yards.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

A Green Horn already using disrespectful terminology of our MSR, Modern Sporting Rifles. This AR and Black Rifles is what the puplic and press and others wants them to be portrayed as.

I started hunting with a Colt 901 last year. I'm very pleased with it.

the problem with my AR is I leave it on a tree by a trail waiting on it to assault a deer or pig for me but the gun never moves, it must be defective.

I hunt with a M&P AR-10. Great rifle for deer and hogs, but assault rifle it's not.

I'm thinkng the "assault rifle" nomenclature may have been a tad tongue in cheek?

I hunt deer and hogs with my AR-10s. I've never had to shoot over 450 yards, but it will do the job out to that distance. Lots of ammo choices!

I have plenty of AR-15 assault rifles and it doesn't scare me to call them as such or hear anyone refer to them as such. I also kill deer rather than harvest them. I might break in the storm because I don't bend to the wind, but I would rather stand firm, than play word games as though I'm doing something wrong by having an AR-15 or killing a deer.

The AR-10 (or other .308 AR platform rifles) makes a fine hunting rifle. Comfortable, ergonomic, safe and accurate, and a plethora of great ammo choices. What more could you ask for? The only drawback I could possibly think of is the heft. It is great for sitting in the blind, but a little heavy for walking (good reason to build a 6.8SPC AR-15 too). But hey, there are sill months before the season starts, so just hit the gym. It isn't an "assault rifle" by true definition, but I'm sure the pigs and coyotes and deer I've taken with mine felt pretty well assaulted, but that would be the case if I got them with my pretty wood stocked Winchester Featherweight too

Our Sig 716 is a proven deer killer, whatever someone want to call it. It's great with a suppressor or not, and way more accurate than most shooters.
