Sams totally sucks!!!! As well as KDs' and Johnny's. Kds' meat is dry, from the meat just sitting on the grill and they are expansive. We had Sams, cater twice, why my wife and her co-workers didn't stop after the first time is beyond me. His food tasted like a bad piece of leather, and was gamey tasting, worse BBQ I have ever had, no doubt. Johnnys' is hit and miss, they went out of business for a while, there ok on some days. Lums is good, as well as both Coopers in llano and Mason. Junctions' Cooper, the guy doesn't know BBQ from his arse. I'm sorry you were born and raised here (Midland), I can't help you on that, but enjoy your stay here anyway

On the way to the lease I always stop at the Pinkees in Lubbock to get gizzards and livers with the Hot sauce. MMMMMMMGood. If you like the BBQ get more beer or if you don't like it get more beer anyway.

Sammy's in Downtown Dallas ain't shabby. IF I could win the lottery I could die happy if I could drive all over Texas and figure out for myself who I think has the best BBQ and best Hamburger. I have a passion for good food. Especially BBQ right behind that is probably all kinds of Mexican food. Best Mexican food I've ever had was at La Fogata in San Antonio...outfreakingstanding. Best BBQ I've ever had was probably The Shed in Winters,TX. Boy I sure could go for some ribs right now. You people should be ashamed I'm on a diet here and ya'll got me talking BBQ. I'm gonna go drink me a big glass of water and go to bed starving.

There is a place in Blanco (hw281 30mi N of S.A.) that is in the North East corner of the downtown square by the court house. I can't remember its name, but they have some great BBQ. I usually don't order BBQ chicken, but you are missing out if you don't stop in and try some there. As well, their ribs and sausage are great and they have homemade peach cobbler with vanilla ice cream that is making my stomach grumble just thinking about it. It may be road trip time...

I have two little girls; which means if GI Joe ever got to take a vacation he should come to my house...Ahhh, Estrogen Land! Where lonely barbies abound without a single man in site.

I think Kd's in midland is terrrible! Johnny's chopped beef sanwich is edible. I love the coopers in mason. I think the one in Junction is ok. I may well be the only texan that has not eaten in llano. I use to like whistling dixie in lubbock but they closed it. I also use to like stubs but they closed it. I tried rudy's the last time I was there and it sucked! My wife found a button in our food at cattle call in amarillo. I had a friend take me to a BBQ place in the messoplex but I cant remember what it was, but it was good.

Iused to sling a bit of hash myself in college at SFA. Mike's BBQ on South Street in Nacogdoches. Makes a beef-link poboy that is incredible. Next time you are in the pineywoods give that place a try and say that Brassell sent ya. Mike I'm sure remembers me.

Main Street BBQ in Euless is my all time favorite.

I recently stopped at McBees in Jourdanton. Really great ribs and Tony makes the best pinto beans that I've ever tasted.

Not in Texas but had some damn good BBQ tonight. McClard's in Hot Spring, AR. Ribs and fries. Good sauce and good seasoning. You need to try it out( the sauce and seasoning that is). Here is a link.

Yep, I liked McBees. The ribs were great. I even got the pinto bean recipe.

I think trying to pick the best is a bit difficult. Every place has its own style and flavor. Here are some really good BBQ joints I've been to and heartily recommend:

The Salt Lick. See their website for location.

The County Line. See their website for locations.

These first two are in the Austin Area. The County Line has multiple locations.

Bodacious Barbecue. This is a chain, but it is a small chain and I have eaten at several of their locations ... they were all good. Located in Northeast Texas I have eaten at them in Sulphur Spring, Tyler and Longview. If you do a search, you will find other BBQ joints using "bodacious" in their names, but this chain is simply Bodacious BBQ. Yum Yum . Although the Tyler location was good, the Sulphur Spring and Longview locations were much better.

JMO but I was not impressed with Angelo's at all. Maybe I went there on a bad day because I have heard they have great food. My ribs were dry, my brisket was bland, and my sausage tasted like something I could have bought at Wal-Mart.

Louie Mueller's in Taylor, Novosad's in Hallettsville or McMillan's in Fannin. Cooper's in Mason is MUCH better than the one in Llano. The one in Junction is terrible.

Good Luck and Good Hunting.

Next week I'll be in the Hill Country and plan to try at least a couple of BBQ places.
My last visit to Cooper's in Llano(2004) was very, very, disappointing.
Ate some pretty good BBQ in Marble Falls last year at a place on the north side of town on 281. Don't remember the name.
If I make it to Blanco, I'll check out the place in the post above.
I'll be on the lookout for some of the other places mentioned above, if I get to some of those towns.

I am an enthusiest and travel alot in my work so i have tried most all of them. There is obviously no spectacle in the world quite like Coopers in Llano. The ones in Lockhart are good but not AS good. Southwest Market in San Marcos is next on the list. The ribs are to die for with beans japs and a slice of cheese(the way real Texas bbq is eaten). Hard Eight in Brady is a Coopers knock off. The free beer rules. It used to be Lone Star BBQ and then the Hard eight in Stephenville bought it and learned the cooking style and used it at their other location. Muellers in taylor is good as well. If you have not had Central Texas style on butcher paper with japs and cheese you are missing out. Nothing else compares.

Ahhhh, the best time of year...Longhorn Football and Bowtech body piercing.
