I am in the process of getting Health Certifications on my dog to bred her in this year. My vet does OFA hips and elbows but says I will need to go to Dallas to get the eye cert performed.
Does anyone have any recommendations of vets who do the eye exams in DFW or east Texas? I am in Tyler.

I'm not totally sure if he does eye certs or not but Lovers Lane Animal Clinic (Dr. Lon Hayes) would be worth calling. He's a retriever guy that would be glad to help or point you in the right direction.

Sorry to hijack but in addition to the OFA hips, elbows and eyes what DNA tests should be done and at what age?
EIC?
PRA?
CNM?

I haven't looked into all the genetic testing yet but since they are 'genetic' tests there should be no age necessary. Your DNA/genetic mutations don't change with age. The other physical tests the dog has to be at least 2 years old to allow the skeletal structure to mature, from my understanding.
But to you question other than OFA hips, elbows, eyes test which are the next most beneficial tests that you would be looking for when buying a puppy. My dog was EIC clear 'by parentage' so didn't know genetic testing was needed. But I would like to error on the safe side.

It always irked me that people fell back on the "clear by parentage". If you're going to sell puppies put a crow bar in it and pay for the actual test. Also there are several ophthalmologists in Dallas. Be sure you tell them that you're there for a CERF eye exam or OFA eye exam. The price will be $30 or less. If you can find a clinic near you, it will cost you even less. Many dog shows and breed clinics hold clinics regularly.
We've used Paulsen in Arlington but there are more now in Dallas.

I was just talking to my breeder about the hip/elbow clearance and he recommended that I look for a vet that has a bit more experience in this area as the joint needs to be manipulated correctly in order to take a good quality image. He also said certain vets may opt to sedate the dog which could possibly hurt the hip score vs doing the images without sedation.
Does anyone have any recommendations for this exam? Or think any vet will do a good job?

Dr. Mary Tatum at Brittmoore Animal Hospital in Houston is where I took mine and she does them without sedation. I know it's not close to you, but it's worth driving to get an experienced Vet to make sure you get the best possible result. There may be others closer that someone else on here knows of.

Robby when the parents start throwing pups that don't pass certs then the breeders rep will tank. But you are correct, it is something that a dishonest person could take advantage of.

You can order the kits as Jay said and carry them to your vet. Let your vet fill out the paperwork and wand the dogs chip, that way the results are VPI. (verified personal identification).

Regarding Hips / Elbows I use Dr Keith Taylor for the xrays and he sends them off for OFA etc. He knows how to take excellent Xrays and I have received OFA Excellent on both of my Labs Hips.
