A coworker convinced me to make a mineral lick and put out for the season. He said it was easy, just buy some pool salt and mix in a little water. Then it would harden.
No.. Didn't work. Just slush water, poked holes in to drain excess water. Now just wet salt.
Any ideas......?????

Coworker told me it was easy. Just add pool salt and water, and wait for it to harden. I did, all I got was salty slush.
Drained by poking holes. Now just wet salt. Any ideas how to make it hard?

Any ideas how to make it hard? Perhaps you should PM Mr. Oxner. I understand he was in pharmaceuticals for a long time.

Then if you do get it hard you'll need to see a doctor if it stays hard more than seven hours.
I go the simple way. A 50 lb. block of trace mineral salt at a local feed store costs about eight bucks. I put one on each food plot in the Spring.
If you can't laugh at yourself, give me a call. I'll gladly laugh at you. "I keep trying to see Nancy Pelosi's and Chuck Schumer's point of view, but I can't seem to get my head that far up my [censored]." Senator John Kennedy, Louisiana

How much water did you add? As much humidity as Texas is having right now, it's going to be a while drying out.
I'd suggest building a box for it. 2x6 sides, 2x12 bottom, maybe 18" x 12", coated nails or screws. Set it out and pour the salt in it-they'll eat it wet or dry.
We use old protein tubs as containers on our place for our sheep and goats and I know the deer drop by.

Here's how I do it
Ingredients: Makes 200 lbs. for about $23.00
1 part Di-calcium phosphate, this is a dairy feed additive bought at feed stores. Comes in 50lb Bags at around $11.00 you need one bag.
2 parts Trace mineral salt, the red and loose kind without the medications. Comes in 50lb Bags at around $5.00 you need two bags.
1 part Stock salt Comes in 50lb Bags at around $2.00 you need one bag.
Directions:
Keep ingredients separate until ready to put to use. Mix all together well.
Dig or tear up a circle in the soil about 36 inches wide and about 6 inches deep.
Mix all of your mineral mixture with the soil except for about 2 pounds.
Water area lightly – about 2 gallons depending on how wet the soil is to begin with
After watering, let dry for an hour then scatter the remaining 2 pounds on top of the spot
Maintenance:
Replenish in 6 months with fresh supply of mineral, and then annually each year there after.
The Di-calcium helps build the deer’s antlers, but they won't eat it unless it is mixed with the salt, the directions above gives the perfect mixture.
The best time to put it out is March/April, but anytime will work.
Put all 200 lbs in one hole.
Works best if there’s a water source nearby.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

My lease has cows, I'm guessing it's pointless making one of these unless we pen it up?
