Ran a set of 6 last night for just a couple hours as I was leaving for the night. Caught two coon with their hands in the cookie jar. Used peanuts as bait since I didn't plan well and didn't have anything else at the house. Was able to shoot three out of the trees in the near area as well. 5 down out of the 7 regulars that hit that feeder. There's always more out there. Cool thing when I approached the sets, I spotted what appeared to be a coyote/fox and something I think was a bobcat kind of hanging out or trying to assess what was going on with the trapped coons. I tried to squeak and get them to present themselves for a shot but they were always behind trees or brush and never gave a clear shot. Wonder how many people that run traps have seen predators stalking their trapped animals?

Wonder how many people that run traps have seen predators stalking their trapped animals? I keep some Duke traps out around one particular feeder. Actually caught a squirrel in one right at dusk. I have game cam video of a Coon that came along a little bit later (dark) and found the squirrel. The coon jumped on the squirrel and killed it. That was all the video I got. I was wondering why I had found only a 'leg' in the trap when I checked my camera that morning.

Best bait I've found for the Dukes is some mini-marshmellows, stuffed under the trip plate, plus a few scattered around. Never have seen any "stalkers" around my sets, but I run them in the early morning. Also, never have found a set with just a leg in it! The incident with the coon jumping the squirrel is very interesting.

I had a hawk beat me to a coon in a DP trap one morning. He had already killed the coon and was eating on it, he flew off as I drove up while making my rounds. A few times I have had a trap with just a foot in it. Then a few days later I caught a three footed coon. I also caught a bird in a DP trap, he stuck his head in it and managed to trip it, funny picture. Several squirrels too, and one skunk. I have only used corn to bait coons, after all that is what they came to the feeder. Well over 400 coons on just corn. I had one feeder that had 3-4 coons on camera nightly. I put out DP traps and caught 17 in the first few weeks. They are like roaches, if you see one there are...

Ive had good success using fish flavored wet cat food. Also have had success with corn. Have caught a squirrel, coons, and a rat.

Never have seen any "stalkers" around my sets, but I run them in the early morning. Also, never have found a set with just a leg in it! The incident with the coon jumping the squirrel is very interesting. I just watched the video again and noticed there are actually two coons in it. The one killing the still very much alive squirrel (duke trap) and another pulling ANOTHER squirrel from a small leg hold trap tied to another leg of the feeder. Hadn't noticed that before. I also have video of a coon trying to pull a dead crow from a leg hold trap. I don't how to take my game cam videos and send them to youtube and then embed here. If anyone knows of a good tutorial...I'll try it. Happy to post both vids for everyone to see. I'm kind of a computer dinosaur.

Checked my DP's one morning and had two right together that had fresh meat and a little hair in them and looked level full. It wasn't good daylight and I was in a hurry so I threw those two in the truck and set two fresh ones. When I dumped them out that night I discovered that I had the front half of a mouse in both traps. Something had eaten everything outside the tube down level with the top! I got a kick out of it. I knew it wasn't coon parts in the trap but sure didn't know what it could be. Since then I come up on one occasionly with a mouse butt and tail sticking out of the trap. I use dry cat food and squirt a little butterscotch ice cream topping in the tube and a little up on the rim to give him a free taste.

Trolling, not quite. Just keep a sound mind on your shoulders and know what to post and what not to and respect the wildlife and your means of management.

This is the best way to reduce the coons at your feeders.

I like these traps. I use the z-trap most as it fires push or pull. I have caught a skunk or two and a possum. I also caught a crow by the beak but far and away its racoons. I trap year round near tanks and catch hundreds every year. I run more dp traps than live traps but use leg holds in Feb. and March and occasionally I find Connibears useful. I have never lost a racoon in a dp trap, they are extremely effective for racoons. I have tried all kinds of bait but now I only use dry cat food because cleaning up sticky smelly stuff is not fun, and the cat food works. I think shelled corn would also be good near your deer feeders but I use dry cat food there during deer season as well.
