Great info y'all.

Now everyone's probably gonna get mad at me for this, but I won't be able to make it out this year. Realized that this requires a week off from school, and I'm only two semester away from being done with High school forever and don't want to risk any truancy stuff. Also some other logistical barriers that I would need to break down to make it happen.

That also means I won't be making that "hypothetical gun" a reality. Shoot me.

There's also other personal issues, but I won't talk about that. Sorry for any inconveniences, and thank you all so much for the help. Learned a lot from this thread and the other, and will definitely use it. Looking forward to being out of school so I can do this hunt.

Pretty much, for the most part. We generally had dinner at camp, hung out after the hunt and bs'ed a little...or a lot. I wouldn't necessarily call it lazy, more like resting roflmao

No problem at all. Education is more important. I would still follow the thread. Lots of wise people and me posting in here. smile

Are the others interested or is your whole group out?

I basically bought it for the trip last year and planned on selling upon our return. It is highly unlikely ZK and I will not be going again this year as he is now a new father and the little bride might not want him going that soon after the baby. I had thought about taking it out to the ranch I am managing near Ozona but that never happened. Figured someone else could make use of it instead of it merely sitting collecting dust here.

Definitely still following the thread. Actually, when I started posting on this I had already read the previous pages! lol

Well, my dad is out, too, and the others won't go without him. Heck, they wouldn't go without me. So for this year, I think we're all gonna be out. Will let you know if anything changes.

I love this thread with all its useful info. I've been watching every post of the 2015 and now the 2016. I can't make 2016 but I am planning for the 2017.

My heart's still fixated on CO, but gotta finish HS strong. Plus, TX ain't too shabby for weekend hunts, eh?

Would it be wrong if I still asked questions on this, as I won't be going?

If anyone is looking for a really good backcountry pant. I highly recommend these. They are on clearance right now because 2016 model went to exact waist sizing instead of m, l, xl etc

These are a steal and they rival the kuiu attach pants. I'm a 36 and wear L

On clothes: cotton is a no-no, but would the generic deer hunting cold weather stuff work?

Depends on what it is, and how you hunt.

Most backcountry type clothing is a layering system so as you move around and heat up you shed, as you sit and glass you layer back up.

As depends on how cold we are talking

The travel trailer is out for me, was doing some research on it and its not something that I want to deal with that time of year at least not with my current vehicle.

They are darned handy to have hunting or camping with little kids. They are a PITA the rest of the time.

Depending on your schedule you can ride with me if you want...

Last year I left at noonish on Thursday and overnight in nm. Than drove straight home sat morning.

Thank you for the offer Cleric, but Ill have to drive up alone, as I will be bringing my 2 weims up and boarding them in Durango while hunting. I just dont trust my vehicle towing 80%+ of its tow rating that late in the year in the mountains when there could be snow and slush to deal with, let alone the potential of having to take it down a dirt road that could be muddy when the hunt is over if it rains.

Wish I had a mule deer tag last year. We saw one about 40 yards away from us that would have taken a dirt nap.
