the wife insisted on In and Out Burger today, when we were in Waco. She was motivated by having read that the singer Adele likes that burger. Well, it was pretty good, but not great. The wife did rate it slightly better than Whataburger. It can't even be mentioned in the same breath with that Alamo Heights burger I had in Fredericksburg or Beck's Prime in Houston.
But, I learned something today. There were a couple of cops having lunch at the next table. I figured they ate a lot of burgers, so I asked them where the best burger in Waco was. The older cop said, without hesitation, that the best was at DoubleR Burger at the corner of 18th Street and Herring. Closed on Sunday. I'll try it next time.

I'm going to try one at Longhorn Steakhouse in a few weeks, the wife got a gift card for them. I'll report back.

Cafe Homestead at Brazos Bluffs Ranch is a pretty darn good burger ... plus makes for a nice partial day trip to stroll around thru the various crafts and trades from yesteryear.

Health Camp is my go to for a Waco burger.
I'd skip a burger altogether for a gut pack or a spud pack at Vitek's, though.

Wacorusty, thanks for the list. Enroute to the In&out Burger, I was all for stopping at Twisted Root for their burger, but the wife was focused on "Adele's favorite burger", at In&Out. All I can say is that Adele the singer must not have access to great burgers in her world. A darn shame...for her.

Twisted Root has some good meat. They also have a game meat every day, last week they had venison burgers. It's loud and kinda hispterish, but the burgers and root beer are tasty.
Cupps is not far across I35 by Viteks. It's a small place that fills up at lunch. They have good breakfast too. And of course Health Camp is at the Circle. I was a little disappointed with the cleanliness the last time I was there, but it's a Waco classic.

Cups is a good burger as well

I didn't realize Waco had a Twisted Root now. I change my answer on the burger, but still would opt for Vitek's.

Grew up in those parts and honestly I have never had a Double R burger.
I was gonna throw my vote for Kitok's or Twisted Root. Next time Im around I will have to try out Double R for sure.
I avoid Dick's and hope they fold.

You could also Try Captain Billy Wizbang's. It's a local favorite too.
I got a shotgun, a rifle and a 4WD.

Twisted Root Burger was today's burger location. Fantastic burger. I had The Westerner Burger, with pepper jack cheese, onion rings, and jalapeņos on it. wow! It was every bit as good as the one I had at Alamo Springs in Fredericksburg. Wife had the Greek Salad and pronounced it great, and said this place was now her favorite place in Waco to eat.
And their spacey catsup was way better than what Whataburger has.
Get there early. Trust me on that!
If DoubleR Burger is better, I'll be stunned. And you can just forget Five Guys and In and Out, and Whataburger. Not worthy of comparison.

Didn't realize Waco had a Twisted Root now. TheY have a pretty good burger but pricey for what it is and if you want a side expect to pay alot for a little handful of fries or whatever it is.

I am not factoring price into my search for good burgers. The Twisted Root burger was $9. Fries were extra, and they were good. It'll cost you even more than that at Becks Prime in Houston.
You want cheap, you have to go where burgers are generally lower quality. For cheap and pretty good, I'm a fan of the Double Meat jalapeņo Cheeseburger at Sonic. But it won't make the top 50 in Texas. I think, going on memory, that the number 1 ranked burger was $30. I forget where it was. I haven't had one...yet.
Life is short. Don't drink cheap wine or eat cheap burgers.

I like Christi's in Bellmead. I've been going there for 20 years or so
back when we used to eat housecats we marinated them in louisiana hot sauce and soy sauce then season them with lemon pepper........then onto the grill slow cooking them 3 hours........excellent folded in tortillas and pico de gallo----Newgulf
