Hey nak for future reference if you want to stir trouble on the THF Go to the deer hunting section and talk about high fence vs low fence Go to the migratory section and talk about public vs private And apparently if you go to the upland section you can talk about ATV hunters and it gets a nice rise I do both so I have no dog in this fight lol

I've seen some recent pics. Some of you could stand to walk. now that's just mean I always tell my wife it isn't mean if it is the truth. My boy said that to my wife this past week and she immediately looked at me. Now that's funny. Side eye glance!

I stay in it for the dogs. I can see them better from a UTV. I never carry a gun anymore. You'll find mor quail while riding but shoot a lot less.

I don't see the logic in hunting with a utv/atv. The dogs follow you instead of you follow the dogs. The more you get off the beaten path the more birds your likely to find

No they just don't let an ATV road direct them where to hunt

No they just don't let an ATV road direct them where to hunt It's difficult to make a point with someone who doesn't have a clue. I generally hunt on a section of land which in a half mile by two miles with at least one cross fence. There are no ATV roads. We hunt across an open pasture, sometimes up one side and down the other, about roost thirty from the fence. The dogs are ahead at ten and two as far ahead as they need to go to find birds. They know to go to the downwind side of brush, like this. Go to the last dogs on point thread and look at the pictures. I only saw one that had tire tracks.

Hunting upland birds from ATVs is just a style, not a crime. I'm just a little more of a purest, and I'm more about watching good dogs work than I am about the shooting. I've gone on a few hunts with friends that hunt from ATVs...its different and just doesn't feel the same to me.
I also hunt everything with a autoloader, but probably spend as much time looking for hulls as I spend looking for downed birds, I wear snake boots even in the snow, and I don't own a Yeti.
We all need to practice Whoa more.

All the folks who are "purists" will some day either decide to ride or quit. We shall see how pure they are when their legs are gone but the desire is still in the heart. The days of walking miles behind our dogs are over for a lot of us. Bird hunting is exclusive enough without leaving out the physically challenged. I say enjoy the ride however you do it.

Pickups have heaters and windshields. YEP, and they are a lot more comfortable, but I prefer the UTVs. They are a lot lighter, and stay on top whereas the pickups will rut the pastures. The UTVs are evolving into something that I'm not fond of. They are removing the beds and adding 1,000 dog boxes. My fiend with the red setters called yesterday from south Texas. His tricked out Ranger broke an axes crossing a cattle guard. I much prefer my stripped down Gator with a 100 pound dog box and rigging. This is my second one and I've never left it in the field. Here you go.

My friend and I met a gentleman and his dad while hunting at Matador. The dad is 89 years young. He still walked. I told him he was my new hero. He's hunted quail for 75 years. Unlike sitting in a box, it never gets old.

Then how do you take pictures after the hunt?! I didn't think it was possible to take outdoor pictures without a yeti as the focal point.

Well, I have nothing against riding as long as it's legal. However the more you walk the better shape you'll be in when you get older. I've hunted with 75-85 years old gentlemen who can walk because they have been walking!

I like road hunting. That's where the birds are.
