This past weekend was youth only in Bastrop County so my buddy invited my 13yr. old daughter to his ranch in Smithville to try for a buck. She's killed a few does in years past, but never anything with horns. Saturday morning we roll out early following the foul weather from the night before. I really wasn't expecting much due to the wind but low and behold we had company pretty quickly. I caught a glimpse of him working in and out of the brush about 75 yards out. He was pushing 5 does fairly hot and heavy. For the better part of an hour he was like a ninja with horns. I've never seen a deer so skilled at keeping a bush or tree between us and him. My daughter must have had to switch windows 20 times to try and take a clear shot. But she remained calm and patiently waited until he presented a nice broadside shot. After what seemed like an eternity, he made the fatal mistake of pausing from chasing the ladies to grab a bite on the ground. That was all it took, she hammered him! I couldn't be prouder of her!
