I'm going to post this question and then sit back and watch the shoot out. My question is this: Why would you want to openly carry a pistol? My thought is that if you do and someone comes into a store that you are in to rob it, then you would be the first person that they target to shoot. In fact, my thought, to the bad guys it would be like you were wearing a target on your back and needed shooting. Wouldn't it be safer, for you, to carry your pistol concealed and have the opportunity of surprise when taking on the bad guys? Waiting for your thoughts popcorn

I don't want to. I just want the right to do so.

Yes, by all means lets start a post whose express purpose is to 'stir the pot'....for your entertainment. Good Grief!

You know... the above has been 'parroted' so many times...as to just be ridiculous. It is such a Red Herring. Please look to the other 44 States that have Open Carry and you will quickly see your proposal (and gun snatching) is such a rare event as to not be worthy of mention.

Everyone that reads this...ask yourself: How many times in your life have you been in a store (or anywhere else) when it was robbed? I am 61 years old and the answer for ME is ZERO. And before you answer "it just takes one time", well that is true of lighting strikes too, or grizzly bear attacks, or a meteor hitting you. Sheeessh folks....weigh the REAL odds and decide for yourself. For those in the 'sky is falling' camp, simply don't carry openly and support those who do.

Depends very much on circumstance and your level of training, right? And I would recommend...if possible, that you NOT 'take on the bad guys' unless you have no other choice. Most criminals are NOT looking for a fight/shootout. They MUCH prefer an easy target and most would be loathe to engage someone they KNOW is armed.

Again, just look to other States and you will find your answer.

My thought is that I hope this thread will die right here....right now. Lets just let OC play out in Texas for a couple of years and then revisit this thread to see if your fears have been substantiated.

Do you ever have to stop in the wrong part of town to get gas? Why not, instead of concealing a weapon in your pants and hope you don't have to use it, wear it on your hip to ensure you won't have to? As stated earlier, thugs prey on the targets they know they can defeat. They, for the most part won't jack with someone they know will fight back.

I will play he devil advocate on your comment. This is only reason why people think I is not a good idea to open carry. What if a criminal come in to rob the store and multiple people are carrying, then it might be in best option to leave or he will suffer gunshots from several different guns. I think letting someone know you openly have a gun, shows you are strapped and willing to use it.

Also, it's my dam right!

How about starting a "People of Walmart that Open Carry" picture thread?

Yes sir. That was corrected a couple of years ago.

Pull it and you could be open game by the cops. A 12 year old kid was shot by the cops up in Cleveland for pointing a pellet gun.

I too probably won't, but like the option.

How are the cops to know if he's pointing it at a dirt bag criminal or some slobbering drunk?

You already are.

Good grief, does nobody take time to read the very laws behind the CHL they have? They even had to change the wording several years ago because some people couldn't get it through their thick skulls accidentally revealing has never been illegal.

Bill, my point is that the "kid" in question, pointed the pellet gun at Officers. The kid was not pointing it at
a 3rd party when he was shot by Officers who were put into a situation to have to defend themselves.

I am old fashioned. Openly carrying weapons was the mark of a gentleman. Look at old portraits. George Washington is in his study writing a letter, but his sword is very visible, to let everyone know that he is a gentleman.
The OC handgun is a mark that you are one of the good guys, have lived a law abiding life, and should be worn proudly.
