Anyone know how the deer hunting is around Comanche? The wife and I have a chance to get on a lease there. Any information?

Great country and typically pretty good deer. I lived in Priddy and hunted in Mullin for 8 years. I love that area and I have been on many back roads and see plenty of deer in those parts. Just like any other county I'm sure some parts are better than others. If the price is right then go for it. I know if I still lived around there I wouldn't hesitate.

Good deer hunting in Comanche and Brown counties. Friend of mine has been on the same lease for 20 years, and herd numbers have usually been good except for the drought years.

Some bruisers out in Commanche, lots of acorns quite massy on the deer that my buddy takes out there. I'd say deer herd densities are not real high but some real quality out that way.

Haven't hunted there since around 1990-91, but the hunting was great back then. Some of my best deer came from around Mullin. But there wasn't any pigs around either.

My mothers side of the family is from Comanche. Always been good quality area. Numbers can be spotty in eastern part of the county. Lots of Post oak and blackjack. Acorns aplenty. Can be tough hunting feeders during a good acorn year. Good luck.

This is my first year on a lease in northern part of Comanche county, Sipe Springs area. As of now, im not sure what to think of it. This particular place has a lot of water and coastal fields. The brush areas have a lot of oak trees (acorns). To me, there arent a lot of deer and the bucks seem pretty nocturnal (game cameras). With that being said, we do have some decent bucks on camera.

Was on a decent place about 10 years ago southeast of Comanche toward Gustine. Decent numbers overall and decent bucks, but nothing fantastic. Could have been really good in my opinion had we been able to stay and manage it longer, but had some issues with the landowner and moved on.

I've hunted twice on a friends place about 20 mile north of Comanche in Sipe Springs. Amazing area for a new guy like me, with deer at the feeders every morning and night. Largest were 10-point, tons of doe. BUT it was my first hunting experience last year so I don't have anything to compare it to.

I have a place in the eastern part of the county. This year has been horrible. I haven't seen anything worth shooting. Not really seeing many deer period. I have 2 more weeks to try and kill a doe just to put some meat in the freezer.

Buddy of mine showed my 3-4 very nice 8 and 10 pts. they took off his family's ranch this year. He also showed me several video snippets of multiple doe and bucks feeding in pasture. Normally, their deer are pretty thin but this season seemed to be a real exception. He also showed me cam pics of 2-3, 140-160" feeding on protein. I was very impressed by his pics. His 1,000 acre ranch is near Comanche, not far from the big catfish buffet place.

My dad and I lease a place right between rising star and de Leon. Hunted yesterday evening saw around 20 deer and ended up taking this buck right before dark. Seemed like every weekend we were able to hunt this year it was really hot or really windy.

I have a place between Rising Star and Deleon that hasn't been hunted in 20 years. I may need to change that.

I've been on a lease on FM 573, southwest of town, for 7 years. The overall quality and quantity of bucks and does has remained above average. However, the pattern has changed due to some massive high fencing that has been going on by the GFG Land Development Company out of Odessa! Most of their acquisitions have been on the east side of 573, except for one ranch that just happens to border our south fence line. This year we took a heavy horn 10pt, 9pt. with good mass, a 9pt point with moderate mass, and a 8pt with moderate mass. We had hogs up until this year; we feel like they have been trapped out as we have not seen a hog since bow season started. There is a good flyway for ducks and a decent dove population. We also have a good flock of turkeys. Our lease has been up for sale since 2006. We thought this year it would have been bought by GFG since they bought the place south of us, but the and owner wanted to keep the mineral rights, so GFG backed off. GFG is part of a conglomerate of companies owned by Frosty Gilliam, an oil billionaire from Odessa and he's a big time Aggie! Also to our wet, the giant wind mills went in this past spring, going southwest to just about Zephyr. On a quiet day, we can hear them turning, so I can imagine what the deer are hearing! We still have a good deal of deer activity, but I feel this next year will determine if the quality will be as good, prior to the high fencing and the windmills! This is my 8pt I took the weekend before Christmas - This 9pt was taken this weekend -
