To keep from derailing another thread...
Who has figured out techniques for metering extruded powders and keeping variations down to a couple of tenths of a grain? It has never worked for me, and I've used five or six different measures.

And I'll add: I don't load with variations greater than the accuracy potential of any scale I use.

It can't, by the nature of the powder. It clumps up and bridges between charges. You go to a different powder that will meter. There are plenty of good powders that can meter well and be in the burn rate of the extruded powder you are trying to use.

I agree. I use my Charge master for extruded powders with few exceptions like Benchmark and LT-32. Some guys say it can be done, I just don't see how.

I'm not sure if this is technical enough, but there are powder tricklers that meter basically to the pellet/flake. The old ones RCBS use to make work well for extruded powders like Reloader 25 but tends to clump on things like H110.

I have one of those too, but it has nothing to do with making a measure, like a UniFlow, drop consistent charges of something like H4831.

He's talking about for a progressive machine. The powder trickler and RCBS chargemaster are for single stage loading.

the Varget was flowing smooth from my ChargeMaster this morning, don't think it over charged but a couple and only by .01 grain.
must be the moisture in the air and I turned off the heater so the fan wouldn't blow me.

I am talking strictly about measures like the UniFlo, Lee "Perfect" (hahahaha), Lyman 55, that sort of measure. I know about the Chargemaster, I use one. I am not asking how to trickle up, or what gadgets make that easier (I have those too).
I am asking if anyone knows how to get a UniFlo to drop consistent charges of coarse extruded powders, and by "consistent" I mean +/- 0.05 grain.

you may have to go to a Harrell Culver type measure but benchresters like them but most of those guys like ball powder which meters more precise. My Uni Flow will always "crunch" long extruded powders. I went to the short cut variables re; 4831SC, 7828SSC, it solved most problems.
When I want the most accurate load, I use ChargeMaster or a beam scale and trickle the last few grains.
so to answer your question...no way

If you find something within .05 grains, PLEASE let me know. That's within 2 kernels of gun powder on a metered powder thrower. If you mean within .5, or half a grain, that's doable.

The resolution of common electronic scales is 0.1 grain, so what you see on the display should be within 0.05 but I do realize that would depend on the quality of the strain cell and the electronics.

Or did you mean the measure itself?

If a digital scale reads out to .1 grains (which is most common), it will generally have an error factor of +/- .1 grains. Like an RCBS charge master, it reads out to within .1 grains, and is accurate to +/- .1 of a grain. In reality, the scale is accurate to within .2 grains (or more). And most are based on a stain gauge, which will wonder around and have interference.
This is why I have a high end digital scale. It is accurate to within .02 grains, with a +/- of .02 grains, so within .04 grains. So, it's 5 times more accurate/consistent than a .1 grain scale. Plus, it's a magnetic scale, which does not wonder around, and has a much quicker settling time.

Maybe I'm not being clear enough... the Chargemaster is great, I wouldn't want to be without one. But I read comments about accurately metering coarse extruded powders out of one of these with some frequency, and I'd like to know how it's done.
