Anybody ever use a buddy heater in their camper? I use it in the stand, where I'm awake most of the time, and there is always a window open. Never ran one while I was sleeping in my camper, which has no windows and only a roof vent. I figured I'd open the roof vent a couple inches.

I've slept with one on in a small cabin (approx 250 sq ft) many times with no problems. And if it's cold enough for the heater I'm pretty sure we've always kept the windows closed.

From Cabelas website: Heater is safe for indoor use in small recreational enclosures, providing it has access to fresh air for combustion and ventilation.

It says it has a low oxygen shut-off. Not sure at what level it shuts off or if you would wake up after it shuts off would be my concern. Personally I have never used one in an enclosed area. But anything which use a combustible fuel, burns oxygen, and puts off carbon dioxide. So it would be important for the area to be vented and I would not want to sleep with it on. Just my opinion.....

I have both smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in our camper but I have used one in addition to the heater when we first get in the camper. I turn off the gas when we are not at the camper each time so it's real cold in there some times.

I used one for years at the deer camp. I ran it all night on many nights. The cabin was pretty drafty but we had carbon monoxide/smoke detectors also.

In addition to smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, an LP gas detector is something to consider if you don't already have one in your trailer.

I once had an incident where the detector in my trailer alerted me to leaking propane from a Coleman heater I had stored in the cabinet below the sink. For both safety and detection reasons, these dectectors, and anything that uses propane, should be mounted or stored near floor level.

If I was going to use it enclosed, I'd sure guarantee there was a source of good air, which may negate the benefit of the heater IDK. I had a cousin (I never met) and his fiance who died from CM while camping in a tent in the Sierra mountains, from what I was told, they where using a small type propane heater.

I do believe the have heaters now that draw there combustion air from an exterior vent, may be the safest way to go.

I use two in my house, they have a automatic cut of for CM and tip over cut off, I have used them for about 5 or 6 years now with no problems.

I always use one in my box blind. I just leave a window cracked a lil.

Same, I don't actually even have a window open until daylight. I guess it comes down to how much you trust a $100 heater with a CM shutdown.

I would not sleep with one. If it's possible; it might happen. The good news is you go into a deep sleep--the bad is that it's a lasting sleep.

A perfect description of hypothermia. You can't win for losing sometimes.

I have survived a very cold night sleeping in my RV with a little buddy burning all night long.

Same here Cast, to me they are safe. No different than a wall heater using propane.

We've used ours in the pop up camper w no issues. Our propane tank is outside, we have monitors. No problemas. It by no means is sealed up tight, that's why we need the heater!

We did have a problem with the gas freezing in the hose, elevated the tank so it was closer to the height of the heater and it was fine.

Like I said, it's a peaceful, soothing, quiet, restful--dead sleep.

I used one in a three room tent...it didn't warm the place up much but I kept it close to the cot. A full bottle lasted about 5 hours on high! Of course tents are very ventilated.

I have small cabin on our place 300sq feet. I have a buddy heater and am still here. I did some research on this very topic and feel its safe. I have a 12 ft line and run it through a cracked window to my BBQ propane tank, instead of the coleman bottles. I also have smoke and carbon dioxide detector, but was told carbon monoxide detectors don't detect propane leaks, and you need a oxygen detector, but I don't know that for a fact.

I use one all the time at the lease.

We have used ours for 8 nights, sometimes in high all night and sometimes adjusting it through the night. We sleep in our 16x8 cargo trailer and with the 10 foot hose running though the walk through door to the 30lb tank, it keeps enough air moving to not effect the heater, or the carbon monoxide detector. We had to do some rigging to keep the door shut as the wind will catch it sometimes, but other than that it's ok. This past Saturday night the thermometer inside the trailer read 25degrees and the poor little heater was pushed to the limits. Going to have to bring some extra blankets

We upgraded to the bigger Buddy heater with the blower built in. The little one just was cutting it, great for the stand, not so much for the trailer

I have a 64 sq. ft. Blind I sleep in as well, run all night with no problems other than getting too hot sometimes.

That scares the jeepers out of me...use it for the blind, but electric in camper
