Never in an urban setting. Rarely in a small town, and that would only be if I just popped in to get something, and was just hunting.

I'm gonna get two Vaquero shopkeepers with birdshead grips, hanging off of a concho-laden belt.

It makes NO FREAKIN' sense, period! I'll be the first to criticize the moron that does. Great. (roll eyes). Love to see the support and open mindedness of fellow gun owners like this. Seriously, you literally can not imagine a single reason someone might want/need to carry openly? Or are you just 'projecting' because you do not intend to do so yourself? And do you really consider yourself to be such an expert on the subject AND intuitively know the needs/circumstances of others...that you are confident in admonishing them, if you see someone OCing?

Open carry to me, makes one the first target to knock off. CC and nobody knows until it is needed.

Someone walks into a store to rob it and is carrying a gun. They see a customer with a open carry gun in the store. Guess who the first target will be.
The best part of CONCEALED carry is the bad guys don't know who is carrying and who is not. It puts that armed victim potential out there so they are less likely to rob someone. Open carry shows the bad guys who is carrying a weapon and who is not.
The only time I will open carry a pistol is when I'm hunting/working at the ranch and that's just for pigs, snakes, etc. A guy robbing a store doesn't want to add murder to his wrap sheet. And I would be shocked if a criminal robbing a store wonders of people with a chl are in there. Now think of it this way, a guy walks in to rob a store. 2 people in the store are open carrying. I'd take a 100:1 bet that he leaves and picks an easier target. Same reason why mass shootings happen at schools and hospitals and army bases. Criminals like unarmed victims. Agreed

Bad idea for a topic. Most replies are emotional and not logical. That won't change.

Personally I could see it being good in certain situations such as when I'm fishing I don't like how the holster restricts my movement so in situations like that I will op and open carry also when doing manual work such as working on the fence or times like that but during every day life no it will be concealed

Had an odd and rather close encounter with a coyote this past September while planting a food plot and didn't have so much as a pea shooter with me.

To me it is all about "where" it is appropriate to open carry. I will not likely ever open carry in a mid sized or larger town. It's fine with me if others do, in a responsible manner, but for ME - concealed carry has too many advantages to want to give up. I grew up in Northern CA where most ranchers wore a revolver full time. It was common to see a restaurant with half of the people wearing holsters. It was normal and nobody felt threatened.
On the subject of open carry people "becoming the first target": It is my view that by far, most armed robbery type criminals will be deterred by the sight of men wearing pistols. They don't want a fight, they want the cash and a quick escape.
BUT, if we are talking nutjob/jihadist type of attacks with AR/AK's - open carry folks certainly could catch their eye first.. Once a guy carrying a rife busts into a room intent on killing, he is not going to change his mind and quietly walk away because he sees a guy with a pistol in a holster.
Just my 2 cents in a world where pennies are worthless...............

I am and will probably always be a proponent for concealed carry, just don't feel comfortable with open carry, just my preference. Only thing that might change my mind is that if and when ISIS makes a showing in Texas. I believe Texans banding together will send a different message than states like California. At that time concealed and open carry alike will bury the hatchet and get business done that will need to be done.

I'll be ready for a gang of 12 bad guys, cause my revolvers are gonna be in .45 Colt, and shooting twice is just silly.

Never. Why would you open carry if you are already CHL. Makes no sense to me. ^^^

I don't want to display my weapon but CC is a giant pain. I don't want to worry about my weapon printing or the mag peeking out of my back pocket.
I can't belt carry unless it's a duty belt because my pants fall down. I want/don't want a shoulder rig.
It's very confusing. Oh I forgot, I have no guns.

My guess is that it will be a fad for a couple of months where you'll see some openly carrying here in Texas, and then things will basically return to normal. I can't recall ever seeing someone in OK or NM open carrying that wasn't hunting, and they're both open carry states. I bet that things will be pretty similar here.
I do like the fact that we can go OWB with a shirt over it and not worry about printing, etc.

Beyond the already stated reasons for not carrying openly is that nearly none of us outside of law enforcement are trained to prevent someone else from disarming us. What then? This situation could possibly provide a loaded weapon to someone who was not previously armed.
I personally would not feel comfortable seeing another civilian openly carrying and think this will just strengthen the resolve of anti-gun folks.
