If I'm not mistaken, the new Open Carry law goes into effect on January 1st.
Which of the following best describes how often you plan to carry your firearm in open sight of others?
Often (2%, 5 Votes)
|
Sometimes (29%, 59 Votes)
|
Never (69%, 143 Votes)

I cannot think of one single good reason to open carry my sidearm. It's my opinion that it would be a very foolish endeavor.
Doesn't bother me if others do.

Sometimes. I am however, exclusively switching to OWB holsters. It's just so much more comfortable. And I think I'll get a shoulder holster rig for days like today where I'm in sweat pants and a T-shirt. It's tough to carry with no belt.

Never. Why would you open carry if you are already CHL. Makes no sense to me.

Doesn't bother me if others do. I hear this, and I think it's a little silly. Criminals like unarmed victims. And how often do open carriers in other states get their holsters ripped off, or become target #1? Rarely, if ever. It will act as more of a deterrent for crime IMO. Now, that being said, I don't think I want constant extra attention from everybody I see. If somebody is open carrying to say "Look at me! I'm a gun owner!" That rubs me the wrong way a little bit,

I think it's pretty situational. And I like the option for convenience like I said. Dress pants, dress shirt tucked in, I'd rather open carry than wear a tuckable. Like I said, pants without a belt, and a T-shirt? Shoulder holster would be nice. But if my atire allows me to easily conceal an OWB holster, I still will. I have no intention of tucking my shirts in all of a sudden just to show off my gun.

I wear an OWB with jeans and T-shirt all the time And I will too. But some of my shirts are just short enough that the muzzle end of the holster hangs below the hem of the shirt.

Now, that being said, I don't think I want constant extra attention from everybody I see. If somebody is open carrying to say "Look at me! I'm a gun owner!" That rubs me the wrong way a little bit, Agreed. Still, it cannot be overlooked that the sight of a respectful looking person carrying a sidearm in a parking lot at night, might very comforting to a woman walking alone to her vehicle. We also have som very remote walking trails in our subdivision where women walking alone might feel the same way.

If she's a stranger to you, I don't think you will make her feel comfortable. If it's my wife, then she already knows I'm carrying. So, what's the point again of open carry? It makes NO FREAKIN' sense, period! I'll be the first to criticize the moron that does.

As for not wanting to appear like Rambo, IMO, the attire a person is wearing says much when they open carry.
Open and yet discrete seems most appropriate.

I'm sure some view Open Carry as an alternative to those who conceal with hopes they will one day get the chance to shoot a bad guy. No question, it was the idiots going after innocent people in public places that became the key driver behind Open Carry laws. IMO, people are looking for something that will make everyone appear less like sitting ducks.

Someone walks into a store to rob it and is carrying a gun. They see a customer with a open carry gun in the store. Guess who the first target will be.
The best part of CONCEALED carry is the bad guys don't know who is carrying and who is not. It puts that armed victim potential out there so they are less likely to rob someone. Open carry shows the bad guys who is carrying a weapon and who is not.
The only time I will open carry a pistol is when I'm hunting/working at the ranch and that's just for pigs, snakes, etc.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

And I would be shocked if a criminal robbing a store wonders of people with a chl are in there. Now think of it this way, a guy walks in to rob a store. 2 people in the store are open carrying. I'd take a 100:1 bet that he leaves and picks an easier target. Same reason why mass shootings happen at schools and hospitals and army bases. Criminals like unarmed victims.

I open carry on my own property but would never do so in public. I don't want the thugs to know. Not opposed to it but it's not for me.

How many police officers become the first target during crimes? Oh yea, pretty much zero. CRIMINALS PREFER UNARMED VICTIMS.

It's been found that criminals fear gun toting individuals more the LEO's because of the possible ramifications they face every time they fire their weapon. As odd as it sounds, right or wrong, an individual can be more likely to open fire than a LEO

I see no need to take my AR to Cracker Barrel. My Glock 33 will do just fine.
