This is a follow up to my postings in the Drag Racing thread. My old gasser is in need of much love and a few have mentioned interest in helping out. This thread is to provide info on the project, brainstorm, and eventually scheduling a work day.

As it sits, water got in the carb and locked up at least 1 cylinder. The options are pull the head / heads, or pull plugs and soak cylinders... Decisions, decisions!
Aldo needs a cam and gear drive as well as a clutch installed. Further down the road, new gears in the rear.

Here is the last time it raced in 2013 at the Texas Nostalgia Nationals at Yellobelly in Grand Prairie running a Mike Byrd 427ci and lots of rear gear (4.88's ).

The goal is to run the Texas Thaw at Northstar Drag way on March 4-5. Then the Texas Nostalgia Nationals the first weekend in May.

I live 3 miles from Northstar and attend Texas Thaw every year.
Love that gasser! Honestly, I would pull it and freshen her up.
Where you located?

Rowlett TX. Pulling the heads will definitely put me in the position to replace them. They are peanut truck heads. Problem is I matched the cam to them.

I miss the Thaw every year and hate missing it. My grandpa nostalgia drag races as well and makes it up there about every other year so you may have seen his car. He runs Yellobelly in may as well so I've made it out there a few times to support him and get inspired. This is a really near car and a period correct example so I want to keep it that way. It doesn't have to be fast, just go A to B safely and look cool doing it.

Parts swaps are always welcome. I got a full spray kit (wet or dry) that needs installed too down the road when things get tuned. Built a 2 step box for the MSD.

Never ran nitrous. I know this sb I have now will handle it. Should anyways. Been pondering trying a turbo set up. Just day dreaming really. Keeps me motivated though. Once I can get my house and shop built in east Texas I can devote way more time to them. Hard to do in a two car garage! Lol. I've done it though. Can't wait to have my shop though. I'm sure my dad will be happy too!

Onto fixing it, pull the head and soak the pistons, all of them. If you can't pull the heads without help then at least pull the plugs and start soaking them and put the plugs back in to keep more water from entering. Manually try and turn the engine, don't try it with the starter until you know for sure its loose. The nitrous is easy, I don't recommend a fogged plate, instead put individual jets in each of the intake runners for a more even flow.

I'm in, love the old drag cars. Yes I ran a sprinter, and my son ran a street stock (limited late model) but grew up around local drag strips.

CR... not sure of how much money you want to throw at the engine, but Edelbrock makes a top end kit that will wake it up to the sound of 400ish horespower(maybe more depending on what we are starting with). We put the topend kit on my step dad's "75 vette, the one with 180hp from the factory it woke up to 348hp at the tires and could prob do better with a rebuilt trans.

I am. Perfectly fine with the current heads, just wanted to take the opportunity to swap if I tore the top end off. So budget is tied up in other issues.

Trying to run down a set of 781 or 049 heads in the meantime. Let me give my dad a call. He might have what your looking for. I think I might can get ya some ceramic coated headers for cheap. Let me see on that one. Wonder if we could start an official or unofficial race thread! Maybe this is it. I have a time of stuff I need to go through. A lot of it might can go towards your car bud. I'll make a call now on the heads.
