Anyone hearing any reports of snakes? I just wondered if I could ditch the snake gaiters for winter or not yet. Thanks

The snakes should be in their dens, but I have seen them come out and sun on warm days during the fall and winter. Usually they are very slow, but I wear snake boots on those days.

depends on your location, when temps get upwards of 80 in some locations they will come out to sun but won't be far from their den.

Only seeing them on the roads. I never wear snake boots or gators, and I survived a cotton mouth bite.

I heard of 3 different accounts of people killing rattlesnakes last week before this last cold front moved through.

We used to go after rattlers when the temps got into the 50's. They will come out and sit in the sun in late morning. They are still slow at those temps, but get quicker as they warm up. I'd say you would be pretty safe right now if the temps stay lower.

We saw two in Llano last week before the front hit. One was a rat snake we found on a road sunning and the other was a pretty big rattler that was a little close to our camp for comfort, but he got down a hole before we could get the shotgun on him.

My uncle killed a 6' rattler in Dimmit last week. 12 rattles. Just before the front hit.

My uncle killed a 6' rattler in Dimmit last week. 12 rattles. Just before the front hit. Same here....killed a 5-1/2ft in a well house while turning on heat lamps in Kent county the day before the front......biggest one killed on the property..........I doubt there will be any in the open grass areas but I would be careful around structures on warm afternoons. Most of the smaller snakes should be denned up. There might be a few "big" ones still out.

I'd say you would be pretty safe right now if the temps stay lower. The Monday before Thanksgiving temps were in the 30s and warmed to the 50s about lunch. My kids went for a hike and climbed on some rocks. My boy spotted a large rattlesnake that luckily rattled at them he told his sister to climb up but she jumped down to be by him and she got within a few feet of it. They hightailed it back to camp. She was crying. Pretty scary. Even scarier when they told mom what happened! I have never seen a rattle bug on this ranch in 6 years but seen and killed a few a couple miles away in the spring.

A "slow" snake is still very fast. ...and even a dead snake can still make you hurt yourself...... Old ranch of ours in Parker county had copperheads and we knew not to walk from the house to the truck, tractor, trailer, etc at night barefooted. Surprising how much damage you can do to yourself when you step on a 50' waterhose snake when you are half asleep.

Killed a rattler Thursday afternoon. Caught him slithering off the dirt road, pulled the truck up and he struck the front tire. 2 rounds from the 9mm killed him.

Anyone hearing any reports of snakes? I just wondered if I could ditch the snake gaiters for winter or not yet. Thanks I was wondering the same thing myself Friday...until I went to light the gas hot water heater at the lease So I popped a top and considered my options...Option A: probably not a good idea since it is a gas heater Then Option B presented itself Then reverted back to Option A to finish in the gravel driveway The final solution
