I want to build an AR. I am not that familiar with them. But I understand that this is a cheaper way to get one. Any ideas or advice?

There are a few guys on the forum that sell the parts. Look in the classified section and you'll see who they are. If they can't get you all the parts, they can point you in the right direction. I don't have the patience (or time) to buy a stripped lower, buy a lower parts kit, buy the bolt/carrier, buy the upper, and put it all together. About all I'll do is swap upper receivers, barrels, stocks, front sights, etc. I've heard others say that you save $100 or so by building your own but don't know from personal knowledge.
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

The first lower I put together took about 1.5 hrs and gives you a much better understanding of how your rifle operates and allows you knowledge in the field if you have any problems. I strongly recommend building your own weapon, not so much for the money savings as for the experience. I have an excellent file with step by step photo instruction. Haven't figured out how the attach stuff to my post yet but if you'll pm me and give me an email address I'll send it to you. Joel

not sure about 650...
your not really going to save that much money if you put it together with quality parts. i did mine summer 08 with a pof lower, cmmg kit, bravo co stock and lmy upp and larue rear sight for about 1000. i didnt save a whole lot but i did get it the way i wanted. thats really the key part, building it gives you the option of getting it right the first time.

www.ar15.com has instructional posts... be careful over there...the place is overrun with moon bats and paper hats. Stick to the information posts and you will be good to go.

yes 650 tax included. The kit was $470 at Model 1 and the DPMS lower was $99 w/ tax and two mags it was around 650. This was prior to the election. The Kits are still 470 and lowers are like 160+ now.

I think this forum runs on UBB code. All you have to do is type www.whateverwebpageyouwant.com and it links automatically.
