Nice buck congratulations..............

Alright so to start the biologist on Ft Hood aged the deer at 4 1/2 and a rough score of 141 not sure how they got the score they did it in about 30 seconds lol. Anyways score isn't whats important I'm just happy to finally kill a buck on Ft Hood and a dandy at that.

The day started out with a 0230 wakeup because I had to be at the sportsmans center on post to check in with the guide for my area. Once we got checked in we left for the hunting area and jumped a nice buck while driving in. At first light I started rattling and a small 4 point came sprinting in and stopped 40 yds from my stand and was pacing back and fourth either looking for a fight or just really curious. Ive literally never seen a young deer act so aggressively. Ended up sitting in the stand till 0950 when a bunch of cows showed up so I got out and headed for the link up site. Once we all gathered to discuss who was returning for the evening hunt I spot movement and see a doe cross the road and then a very nice 10 point chasing her. I figured there goes my buck since my stand was only about 200 yds from where we seen the buck. Thy released for lunch and told us to be back at sportsmans by 1330.

Once I got back from lunch I told the guide id like to try another spot and he said he had a great spot where I could do a lot of glassing and rattling might work well since the bucks were chasing so aggressively. I said ill take your word for it. Got to the stand about 1500 and put out some corn where I thought deer might travel and then put out some code blue doe in estrus. Got in my stand and surveyed the area. I had a lane to my left about 300 yds long that ended at a fence line with private property on the other side. Guide said we had permission to shoot any deer on our side even if it was close to fence. To my front I had lots of shrubs and a couple small oaks and then a wood line about 200 yds out and then to my right it was pretty thick but guide said deer used that area to travel. About 1530 I look to my left and spot a doe running across the lane and I figured a buck is prob chasing her so I grab my gun and look through the scope and see a huge bodied buck with massive antlers, prob the biggest buck I've ever seen on the hoof. Before I could even try and take a shot he jumped the fence and was gone forever. I was pretty disappointed but glad I didn't rush a shot and end up losing the deer. I grunted, rattled, grunted, rattled and nothing. He was completely preoccupied. At about 1645 I heard what sounded like a buck thrashing a tree with his antlers so I waited patiently and nothing emerged from the brush so I started rattling again and then grunted twice. About 2 minutes later my buck steps into some thick shrubs and starts thrashing the shrub like he was fighting an imaginary buck. I didn't have a clear shot because of the shrubs in front of the buck and watched him for about 5 minutes. Finally he turned to go back the way he came from and it was now or never so I shot him quartered away from me and he ran about 10 yds and piled up. I was so dang excited because I've been trying to kill a Ft Hood buck for years and finally got it done on a great 10 point with bladed brows. Turns out the guide had been trying to kill this buck since bow season so he had some mixed emotions but was happy someone got the buck.

I got to give a shout out to Chad at Custom reloads of Dallas. Ive shot 3 animals with his 270 magnum load and none have went more than 10 yds and my Browning has turned into a laser beam with that load.

All in all it was a great day and I feel very blessed and lucky to have killed such a nice buck.

No I didn't hunt that spot this year bc I had wrist surgery and didn't think id be able to bow hunt. This was in one of the semi guided rifle areas.
