I have been looking for a clean first gen 4Runner for a while. I found this one about a week ago and picked it up. It has 124k original miles on the clock, and is really clean. 1986 model with the 22RE. I am the 3rd owner, original owner was an older guy who rarely drove it and kept it really clean. 2nd owner only had it a few months before he came across some unexpected hospital bills and sold it to me. It is VERY clean, runs like a top and everything on it works perfectly. It will be my daily only 2-3 times a week, and will take me to the duck lease during the season.

Cool truck!

My brother has a little newer model 4Runner with almost 300,000 miles on it. THESE TRUCKS GO FOREVER!!!

Cable, there you go hoss. A late model 4Runner is my suggestion.

Yeah my grandfather had 3 early 80's Toyota trucks as his work vehicles for his business. Each one had over 300k with no problems. My mom sold her mid-80's Toyota with 450k on it, and it was still running like a champ!

Nice gen 1! I've had a couple of those and if I ever get the $$ for another one I'll buy one with the 22re as well! You should be able to get 20mpg with a good tune and stock tire size..maybe more. Not only that, these little trucks are like TRACTORS in 4 low!

Nice find.

My uncle used to have 3 or 4 of those that we used on his deer lease.

That's an excellent find and it's just getting broken in, as far as the mileage goes.

I agree. You can't beat a Toyota when it comes to quality. I just hope it was worth trading my Camry for a Chevy truck. I have to admit, I'll be nervous for a few months hoping it does not break down on me.

Dwadr, at least the Chevy trucks are somewhat inexpensive to repair. And it will get to those places the Camry couldn't!

You are right. That car was pretty costly when it had to be repaired.

That's crazy low miles for a truck that's 22 years old. That thing looks like new on the inside.

23 years old... hehehe but yeah it looks new! The old man that originally owned it really took care of it. Its amazing how well something will hold up when properly cared for.

Thats a cool ride. My next vehicle is going to be something along these lines. I was thinking about one of these or a pre 99 Suburban. I'd like to find one that has been well cared for like this one has and remove all the seats and carpet and put in spray in bed liner in place of the carpet, reinstall the seats and put water proof covers on them in camo of course. I'd add about a 6 inch lift and 33" to 35" tall tires with locking diferntials and the right gears, add a winch and winch bumper on the front and a heavy duty luggage rack on the roof with a piroque boat strapped down to it. The enterior would be set up to carry all my duck hunting and fishing gear completely secured and in it's place. I figure I am about a year to a year and half away from building this bad boy.

I have a 94 Land Cruiser, 175K miles. I wouldn't be afraid to drive it to Alaska tomorrow.

Back in the 90's I had the opportunity to drive one of the SR5 4x4 pickups I beleive it was an 84 model and it had over 500,000 miles on it and still road a drove great. These are tough vehicles.

Congrats on your Toyota purchase. In late 1990 after having a double dose nightmare experience with Jeep, I became the original owner of a new 1991 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ-80. Hands down the best and most reliable rig Ive ever owned. She has never let me down and always gotten me to my destination. You cant argue with perfect performance.

She was my daily driver from 1990 until the end of 2004 when I picked up a new 2004 Z71 Suburban just after the 2005 started to ship. My Land Cruiser continues to serve weekend and fun duty and has been my part time DD when my Suburban has been in the shop.

My five year, 100K manufacture warranty runs out next year on my Suburban. My game plan is to once again make my Land Cruiser my DD at that time if not before. The total cost of ownership including purchase price for my Land Cruiser so far has been about $120 a month and it keeps getting lower the longer I drive it. I would say that is pretty cheap cost for completely dependable cruising especially when you consider that shes capable of extreme 4x4 when conditions merit.

Here are a couple of shots of her and a sister rig that a friend owns.

Blue, that is a SWEET setup you got there! I love it! What bumper/grill/winch combo is that on yours?

The Cruiser is probably the finest SUV ever made. The only argument is whether the greatest title goes to the FJ40, FJ60, FJ62 or FJ80. That's an awesome looking rig you've got!

I didnt intend to hijack the thread I was just applauding your decision. As a charter member of the Lone Star Land Cruiser Club Im a huge Toyota fan. My FJ-80 is stock with the exception of ARB Bull Bar (Aussie Roo Bar), Safari Snorkel, 12K pound Warn Winch, and Ole Man Emo (OME) suspension. The OME provides a slight lift and an exceptional ride both on and off-road.

Now boys dont get me wrong, Im as patriotic as they come and eventually felt a small amount of guilt about my Toyota purchase, even after my double lemon Jeep experience. In 2004 I forced myself to once again buy American. Now I can fly my flag high knowing that my Z71 Chevy Suburban that was assembled in Mexico feels right at home parked in my garage as my home that was also purchased from a well known American company was also assembled with Mexican labor. There is often more to buying American than meets the eye.

This thread has caused me to be on ebay looking for a Land Cruiser for the last hour.

I'm to the point where I'd swap my truck for one. I've never owned anything other than a Ford, but I have a feeling my Ford ain't gonna last for 300,000 miles.

Hahaha, I know how that is. Before I found this 4Runner I spent months looking for one. They are getting hard to find, especially nice ones.

Toyota IMO is pretty close to an american made vehical. They have plants here and customize them here. Hell they are going to open a customizing plant here in Temple...they currently have one in Houston. They pretty much take the stock trucks or whatever and add all the bells and whistles that the car buyers want.

The buy american thing is a guilt trip...when all things are equal sure. I buy what is the best overall value. There are plenty of good American products and services and when they are not the best value then maybe they should try to fix that. Value is a pretty broad term in my book....but price of what you are getting and quality/reliability are the two biggest components.

I agree... at least I think I do. Buy American is great but a lot of times is diluted with hazey images of reality. I buy something when it's value [to me] exceeds the price.
