Hey all, I usually hunt the wichita falls area (about an hour west) the week before thanksgiving and it seems to be the very beginning of the rut most of the time. Was considering trying to week of December 6th and am looking for some local advice on if deer activity will be good then or if o should shoot for immediately after thanksgiving.
My thoughts are I should hit the rut better and if not than cooler Temps should also mean starting to pattern more on the food BUT I could be completely wrong so any advice is appreciated

Had a few bucks cruising by themselves opening morning. Kind of think they are starting around here. I hunt Archer County which is just south of WF.

I hunt Archer as well and usually the rut is right around the first or second weekend. However the rut doesn't start and conclude in just a few short days.

I hunt west of WF in Wilbarger Co. near the Red River. I don't get serious until before Thanksgiving. I hunt an area with a good population of resident does and a few small bucks. The bigger bucks don't show up until those does go into heat. That's when they start showing on the game cams. Early in the morning (dark) when they first start getting their picture taken then anytime of day during full rut. That being said, most of my bucks have been taken in late November to early December. I went out opening day in the evening and saw 7 does but no bucks. No surprise but glad to see them. During the rut, where there are does, bucks will soon follow. Blindly, stupidly, mindlessly. Just like us.

We hunt in Wilbarger county and border the Waggoner Ranch. The majority of our big deer show up after Thanksgiving and that is after the first freeze. The later in the year the better it gets. The only issue is some of the good bucks are broken buy that time.
