Was headed to the west end feeding yesterday and seen a yote in the road about 200 yards up. I hit the gas and the closer I got the more of them started to show up, four all together they were leaving a dust rail with me right on their arse. They started to break into the brush when i was about 50 yards away when I noticed they were not yotes but dogs that had the same coloration and size as yotes but heavier. These dogs were wild as any yote I've ever seen. If these were coy dogs they will be the first I've ever seen.

I've seen a couple over the years, including a coal black one I watched bury a dead squirrel under my tree.

Seen plenty.. videoed one in tha Navasot a few years back that looked dam near like a wolf...

Trapped a few back in the 90's. One had to be 80+ lbs.

Trapped a few and shot a few more back in the early '80's around Lorena. Had one rancher/farmer in the area that ran sheep and had a pack go through his herd one night and killed something like 15-20 of his sheep. After that, they were pretty much open season.

A friend and myself ran into a pack of about 10 in a wheat field. We each dropped one while they were milling around then tried to wipe them out as the high-tailed it across the field. The one's we got were all in the 40-60 lb range.

People would come out and dump unwanted dogs and cats out there often enough that they started interbreeding with the local coyotes, to the point that I really don't believe there were any pure-breed coyotes left in that area.

They better not make over to my place. Ill put them to sleep

Kind of sounds like a bunch of wild dogs that are running in packs. But it could be a case of some people's dog that run together during the day when their owners are at work. Domestic dogs that run in packs will kill for the fun of it. On the other hand, packs of feral dogs kill for both food and fun. If they are feral shooting them is not a problem. If they are domestic pets, use the SSS, owners will defend their dogs more than they will their spouse or kids and could cost you a lot of money in legal fees.

We have a new policy now at our ranch and the neighboring ranches as well. If you see a stray dog, it's getting a dirt nap.

About 3 weeks ago, my neighbor had a $5000 show calf killed by 4 dogs. 1 of them was his own dog that joined the pack while it was attacking. 2 were shot on site. The other 2 were shot a couple days later.

He figured since there were 4 dogs, total will be $1000 per dog in restitution. One neighbor agreed to pay for his 1 dog. The other neighbor that had the 2 other dogs told him to pound sand.

Bad deal!!

I have a couple of dogs running deer & hogs on my place. They do not have collars on but I can tell they belong to someone but not sure who. Been asking around but no one is claiming them. I don't want to break any laws but if I cannot find the owner can I shoot the dogs? If I find the owner and he doesn't keep his dogs off my property can I shoot the dogs if he has been warned? This seems to be a common problem in rural areas. I have a buddy of mine who has the same issue on his lease.

Treat them same as a wolf or coyote , put them to sleep . More than likely are wild dogs and they can be as mean as a pack of wolfs .

You best bet would be to SSS.

We had seen the 2 stray dogs numerous times before running loose. Almost wild like. Would immediately run off once they were seen.

I suggested we shoot them and my neighbor, mentioned " I think those are so & so's dogs".

Our situation is different now. The Sheriff has already told us we have permission to shoot any dog we feel necessary. This was not the first incident in the county. 4 show lambs were killed a couple months ago. Sheriff has already made it known that if your dog is running around ANY livestock, the livestock owner has the right to shoot it.

I would much rather deal with a pissed off dog owner than to have to go another deal like that on a $5000 heifer. More so, what if a child gets attacked for playing around the house? I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.......From now on, there are no passes.

We had a good cur dog when I was growing up on a farm that was the best cow dog in the world and my dad thought the world of him. We had a cousin that joined our place that ran Angora goats and our dog and his plus another neighbors dog or two had a goat down at the edge of a stock tank when said cousin caught them and killed all 4 with a shotgun. He came and told my dad and dad you did the right thing because just like a chicken killing dog once they start you can't stop them.

Texas has some pretty specific laws on livestock being attacked by dogs. Do some googling, using Texas "Vernon's statutes" dog attack livestock The section below should pop up near the top and it contains some wording that most folks feel is pretty straight forward. (I'm not advocating any particular action...)

Sec. 822.013. DOGS OR COYOTES THAT ATTACK ANIMALS. (a) A dog or coyote that is attacking, is about to attack, or has recently attacked livestock, domestic animals, or fowls may be killed by:
(1) any person witnessing the attack; or
(2) the attacked animal's owner or a person acting on behalf of the owner if the owner or person has knowledge of the attack.
(b) A person who kills a dog or coyote as provided by this section is not liable for damages to the owner, keeper, or person in control of the dog or coyote.
(c) A person who discovers on the person's property a dog or coyote known or suspected of having killed livestock, domestic animals, or fowls may detain or impound the dog or coyote and return it to its owner or deliver the dog or coyote to the local animal control authority. The owner of the dog or coyote is liable for all costs incurred in the capture and care of the dog or coyote and all damage done by the dog or coyote.
(d) The owner, keeper, or person in control of a dog or coyote that is known to have attacked livestock, domestic animals, or fowls shall control the dog or coyote in a manner approved by the local animal control authority.
(e) A person is not required to acquire a hunting license under Section 42.002, Parks and Wildlife Code, to kill a dog or coyote under this section.
