I'm looking to put a cheap scope on a cheap gun and wanted yalls input, I'm trying to choose between the Nikon buckmaster II and the Bushnell banner dusk&dawn. Both will be in a 4-12x40

Of those 2 would go for the Nikon, have a few Buckmaster scopes that have never had a problem.

I just got a Nikon for my .22 and while it's only $140 scope the glass is pretty darn good and I really liked it from the couple of times I plinked. It's amazing how much better the budget scopes have gotten now a days.

Being that I do some freelance work for Nikon I have to jump on the bandwagon too.Only because I know you will be happy with your selection. Instead of the Buckmast Ii I would use Nikon's PROSTAFF 4-12 BDC scope. I just helped a friend put one on a 22 mag rifle and he loves it. Very clear through all magnifications and the light transmission for hazy days will make you happy as well. The PROSTAFF 4-12 BDC is currently under a Nikon Promo right now giving you an extra $30 off at check out when you buy form an Authorized Nikon Dealer.

Only problem I have there is putting a $200+ scope on a rifle that's not really worth that. The rifle will be used seldomly

The nice thing with the PROMO the PROSTAFF 4-12 BDC is only $40 more then the new Buckmaster II. The fine focus eyepiece in the PROSTAFF and the great light transmission make the PROSTAFF a real deal. I put the same PROSTAFF on my Father In-Law's deer rifle and he went from averaging 10 rounds per deer to 12 shots 12 Kansas deer. Pretty good for a 80 year old guy who used to only want to shoot peep sights.

"he went from averaging 10 rounds per deer to 12 shots 12 Kansas deer." Are you saying it took an average of 10 shots for him to hit a deer?

If going cheap (as you say you are) I like Nikon or Vortex Diamondback. Going high end I like Bushnell.
