Did some research and found that a lot of manufactures use the same type of linkage set up though due to frame flex when off road. The rubber grommets are suppose to allow for some flex as well as prevent the rattle that would happen without it. I do plan on coming up with a retainer of some kind to keep from ever losing it again though. Looks like the whole linkage assembly with grommets is less than $40 so not a big deal other than the fact it happened at the worst time possible.
