First time poster, first time deer hunter this past season, longer time bird hunter and i like to think i can catch fish once in a while. Most of my hunting occurs on other people's property (friends and parents of friends), but once I'm done with living in education poverty and start making my own money I'll have to get a place if I can.
Anyway, my question to all y'all wise ones: Do people go to the regional TBGAs? What about the San Antonio meeting?
I have never been into trophy hunting (i'm not against it, just don't know much about it), but I guess you could say I got bitten by the tick this year.
Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum. I'm writing this assuming you're referring to the Texas Big Game Award banquets. If not, then I wasted the rest of this post...
While I'm not necessarily a "trophy hunter", the TBGA promotes and recognizes the taking of quality game and quality land owners/managers. You'll note that every youth that enters their quarry gets recognized.
I found a pronghorn hunt on here several years ago and went with 2 buddies. We went for the companionship and it ended up that 2 of the 3 goats we took were nice ones and ranked well in that year's standings.
The regional banquet was in Childress and was a great opportunity to celebrate with others who are as passionate as the outdoors as myself. While I haven't been to the one in San Antonio, I was imagine it's quite sizeable given its location in deer country.
I think any opportunity to rub elbows with esteemed landowners and fellow hunters would serve well.

Welcome to the THF. I personally don't get involved in big game awards. None of 'em have a "Consolation Category" That I could qualify for.

Tony, love the signature. That's awesome. I think I may be going to the awards thing. Not sure how I feel about it, but I guess it might be nice to talk with a few people about management/harvesting. I always just wanted the meat!
I'm still enjoying the fruits (er, meats) of this year. My freezer has never been so stocked and that's the important thing to me. I could eat venison tacos for the rest of my life.
