Guys,
I need a hoist that will attach to my hitch and was wondering if any of you guys have ever used one of these? Is it built well? If not do you know of someone who could build one? Since I'll be hunting alone most of the time I need to find something that I can use to assist me in getting a buck into the back of my truck.
Thanks,
Mel

bholt on here builds a good one for 185.00. That's what I have. You have to go get it in Georgetown though, he does not ship.

Im not in DFW, but like to play with my welder... anyone in the Houston area, if you buy the supplies, Ill weld one up. Im not a welder by trade, so dont plan on it being the prettiest thing you ever saw, but it will get the job done. Sure wouldnt mind trading that service for a hunt around here either.

Look for rated maximum weight if you want to handle exotics or really large hogs. Most of these hoists are designed for deer and small to average hogs.

I have on exactly like hunter-Steves. Just used it last Saturday to load a 250# boar in the back of my truck by myself. They really come in handy as you get older and wiser.

Monarch hunting products in arlington sells them. Had one for 8 or so years and works great every time. Fairly inexpensive as I recall and very heavy duty.

I have used one for over 14 years of hunting and love it. It's one of those things I wouldn't go on a hunt without. Mine breaks down into two pieces. I can put it in the back of my atv if I need to and use it to load and skin what I need. It's held a red deer and scimitar oryx with no problem. I got mine as a tip from a hunter years ago but I remember seeing them for sale at Buc-ees on I-10 at that time. The only thing I would change on mine is maybe make it 4"- 6" taller to keep an axis deer head off the ground. I use a 1500 GMC but if your on a 2500 4x4 that is a bit higher off the ground that may not be necessary but would still help in having to bend down to cape around the neck and head. But for WT and hog its good enough. It also extends out far enough that my tailgate will go down when I'm using it and I can swivel mine around to slide my game into the bed or an ice chest.

Guys, THANK YOU! I can ALWAYS count on the guys here to help me! I bought a monarch winch/hoist this afternoon! My understanding is that it's rated for 1000lbs. It's certainly heavy duty enough for anything I'll use it for. Here's a few photos of it. Sorry for the lousy quality but it was pretty much dark when I took them.

Yep, that should do it! Enjoy the nearly labor free pains of loading your buck into your truck from now on. Your not gonna know how you did without one of those after you use it.
