This is my first yr on my brother in laws lease in Blanco County. All 7 of us tried to make it up this past weekend, but only my brother in law and I were able to make it. We have have been watching this young buck most of the summer and was hoping he would stay around. We don't get bucks this caliber or better very often so the majority of the hunters said take him if you can. Here's how it went down: Before light and before the feeder spun, he walks in directly behind my tripod and stops 8yds behind me scanning the feeder area where a doe, yrling and a slick 6 were hanging out. Cows moved in right after the feeder went off and they chased those four deer off probably 6-7 times and were guarding the feeder! Only once was I able to draw on him at 8yds, but he turned and walked off. After jockeying with the cows for a solid 20 mins he and the other deer had enough and this buck slowly walks off behind me. Cows leave a few mins later and the same doe and yrling who had been here all morning came back in. This guy came in shortly after. All the activity here this morning I had never a chance to range the feeder, but had guessed 18 yds. He was actually at 14 yds. I held my 20yd pin low and ended up spining him. He thrashed for a couple seconds, then calmed down. As I was releasing the 2nd arrow, he thrashed again and my shot missed vitals. 10 seconds later my 3rd shot was money and he expired in about a minute. I was pretty steady during the whole fiasco that morning, the draw, aiming and the shot. But after the last shot is when my buck fever kicked in overdrive! It was on full throttle for 20 minutes!! Thank you Lord for this opportunity and what you have blessed me with. He is by far my biggest and is definitely going on the wall. He may not score high and nor do I care, but really makes it up in character! 15 scoreable points!
