Does anyone know where I can go hunting with a shotgun preferably or a bow for hogs? My wife is gone till Saturday night and it's just me and my boy. I was looking at Tawakoni but I am kinda confused on the shotgun general season part. I don't know if it means I can't go till that day or I can use my shotgun and bow now but if anyone knows where I can go hunting with my shotgun on a public land for any type of game please let me know. Thanks! BTW I live near Denton, TX so I don't mind driving up to 2 hours away.

There is no hunting like the hunting of man, and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never care for anything else thereafter.

Thanks colt.45, I was going to go out to the Grasslands in Decatur but I am not sure if they allow shotguns now or during the date they specified. The guy at Academy said it was okay for me to go down there but I don't wanna get in trouble. I'll probably make my way to Tawakoni.. Hopefully I'll spot something.

Most of the stuff ya hear about public hunts tis rumor, then never hurts ta let person know were ya be hunten, in case of an accident... 98% of time huntsolo myself... Have taken family with, most people their ta hunt, not mess up place... Then can only speak for meyself... Best wishes...

No sir. I went that weekend but didn't see or hear a thing. I do bow hunt, well let me rephrase that. I bought a bow a few months ago and have been target shooting. I am spot on 20 yards, but anything beyond that is a mystery. I was told to practice on a few hogs before I actually shoot a deer.
I was given some advice about public hunting. That is why there was barely a response from anyone on my first post about public hunting. It is a secret for most people from what I understand. I guess like you colt.45 sir I will have to do some scouting myself. I remember on a post what time you put that back in the day hunting was essentially to put food on the table. Now it has been kind of watered down. I can understand why nobody wants to share about public hunting, so it's understandable after the explanation you gave.

Realize here in the yes sir & no mam is custom... But as my old drill sarget would say: dont call me sir, see these stips i earned them ... On THF been laughed at made fu of cause of me grammar... Were i come from they didnt teach, antler scoring, judgung deers age in english class... Theirs been some great debates on THF about them.. It lists me as a trophy hunter , it goes by the # of posts, i think... Tis why at bottom of my post it say's: i'm postaddic .. You say just getting inta archery, 20 yrd range... Now days they got bows people shooting 80-100 yrds... i've had deer, at 20yrds drop under the arrow... Shooting out of a tree stand at 3Ddeer the aiming point is higher than 3Ddeer at ground level... 3Dtarget doesnt move... As pappy once said: if ya wanna get the Big Bucks in hunting, Archery is best education ... My first deer rifle was a Kentucky .45 tis were i learned English ... If ya just beginning archery.. 3Ddeer target, life size, using 3 pins, ya have a built in range finder... Sad it many times flunked english... When looking at pins, before shoiting put top pin on back of target, then notuce were bottom pin is on 3Ddeer.. it easy with compond bow, less weight ta hold... Do thus at 10, 20, 30 yrds, at what ever range you feel comfurtable at shooting.. Like long range choten with rifle, dont furget windage.. WMA is open ta public, with high prices of leases, more people hunt public.. Roomers of crack houses, boogyman, people stealing stuff.. Some times are nothing more than that, yet some think they own place... During general hog hunts, i used gps, took notes of rubs, scrapes, bedding, sightings, & time of day, then applied ta TOPO USA at house... Could give way points on here, but each day, year, hunt is different... Enough rambling.. If ever get around OSBWMA send pm... Best wishes...
