New York Hill is one of our stops already but don't want to eat there every trip.
We stop at Maverick Grill and Natty Flat BBQ also.
Have no desire to ever set foot in Smoke Stack again.

Might try the steak place in the cattle auction barn for lunch or dinner. Next exit West of ranger fronting I20 on south side.

Always wondered if that place was any good.

I did a little research and what used to be called The Cattle Exchange Steakhouse in Eastland is now Circle-M BBQ and Grill.

shortcut to auction house: take the exit 349 where the DQ is. head towards the shell station back over I20, then go west on that 2-way south side service road to auction barn. it will keep you from having to pass it on I20 to the next exit, u-turn and headback.
if you willing to go to eastland, Mae's just might be what you looking for. excellent spot and my first choice when the hours work. call first. might just be doing lunch and early dinner. and bet you can get to your camp from eastland. there is back road returning to ranger out the northside of town passing by the feed store and supermarket.
let us know.

I can't taste anything there for the cig smoke! Hate that place and their CFS is way overrated, it's big but not that good.

I take back my original post. I ate breakfast there with a customer the other morning and it was terrible. The place has been redecorated but the new breakfast is bad. Both of us ordered eggs over easy. I'll eat an egg anyway ya cook it but hard boiled is hard to stomach. They're were two owners before. I don't know what happened but Mike no longer is a part of the team. He must have made the pick0 de guyo because they no longer have it.

Anyone who dr said you can't F-UP an egg has never eaten here in the last 2 weeks.

There's nothing in Ranger worth eating if you're really picky about your food.

La Finca will do in a pinch.

Mae's would be my first pick if you're willing to drive to Eastland.
Take the gravel road between Tractor Supply and Dollar General - across from Walmart and Blake Fulenweider.
Mae's is right behind Dollar General.
They are a meat market/restaurant. I buy ribeye's there all the time to cook at home. They are terrific.
I had a 6oz sirloin and 1/2 pound of crab legs there last Friday night. I think it was $16.50.
My wife had the fried catfish and it was great.

Mary's isn't that great. I've eaten there practically my whole life and the best they have to offer is cold beer. Everything else is overpriced and it's a 50/50 shot of being good.

thanks for the information about "Mae's" I will try that this Saturday night. I did not know where it was. I also have to agree about Mary's. I have hunted in the area for 40 years and Mary's used to be good all the time. Now it's 50/50. But if your hunting out of Strawn, you might as well give it a try once. After all you got a 50/50 chance.

You bet!

They have weird hours so you might want to call ahead.
I think on Friday nights they are only open until 8:00

Get there early....we usually pick a place local on Friday night and it fills up fast. We are usually sitting by 1715 and get out pretty fast. Food is good and a nice change. They sell meat so you can pick your steak and have them cook it or take it back to camp and cook it yourself. Good folks own it.

The cattle auction place between Ranger & eastland. I've eaten there twice in the last two weeks and was good and reasonably priced both times. I asked at the hotel I was staying out where was the best steak place to eat. This is where they sent me. Now, here was your choices of steak: Ribeye 8oz, Ribeye 10 oz, Ribeye 12oz, ribeye 16oz. That was all the steaks that they had on the menu. I got the 8 oz not knowing how good it could be for %12.99. Came with salad and baked potato. It was worth the $12.99. If it had been $20.99, it would not have been worth it, however, I am going back next week to get another.

Wife and I ate there Friday night....she had a steak and I ate a burger. Both were great. Even though we live local, we've never been out there until last week.

And the Bud Light was warm.

I always say I'll try anything once . . .
