you've only shot a few rounds out of??? There's guns on here all the time that people say have only had a box (or so) through them.

I have sold several guns that I have fired less than a box through, and even a few that I never fired a single round through!
When I buy a gun I have every intention of using it, but for some reason I just never did, or maybe I did not like it as much as I thought I would!
I have a 416 Rem Mag that I planed on taking to Africa with me, but I never did the trip so now I am trying to sell it! I never fired a round through that one either!

I think it's so you can list your item, and have others try and talk you down on it....OK just kiddin'. I think sundance called some of the reasons. I have some never fired, including one I'm trying to trade currently...simply so I can at least feel I have a better bargaining position. But likely it often comes down to cash needed, or it isn't what I thought it was going to be? I may be preparing to get another out of town deal from a person in college, and needing help with new semester expenses. Heck in my own case, I've parted with almost my entire collection(s) twice, when family money was needed. Now I'm building it up again. Interesting topic though.

I just wondered, everytime i buy a new gun i'm excited and go run at least a box through it usually that day. I don't think i own a gun that hasn't had at least 1000 rounds through it. Just a clue when i see one for sale and it has not had a box down the pipe i start wondering what is wrong with the gun. Some times you can speculate that the gun was too much for the shooter to handle if it's a large cal. And i guess some people buy guns with intention of reselling them. I guess in most cases i'd state why i'm selling.... 458.... too much gun for me! 22-250.... bought to resell ran a box through it and it's a tack driver!!! ect...

Certainly a good point. One can only account for their own reasons, and for me, currently I just want to have more than less. The keeping/firing or trading/selling part will come. Heck certain ones may even be placed in a safe place, which does not mean a safe.

I bought an -06 because I thought I needed something bigger for hog hunting. The guns I'd been shooting them with weren't doing the job for me. After shooting two hogs with it, I decided it wasn't the gun for me. It's a pretty gun and I'm always afraid I'm gonna scratch it up! Someone else will probably get more enjoyment from it and not drag it through the brush like I want to.

A lot of times buying a new gun is strickly for the thrill of the hunt for fools. Kinda like takin the girl home from the bar at closing time. Seemed like a good idea at the time but when you wake up the next morning you realize mabe not such a good idea. Now ya gotta get rid of it with as few people knowing bout it as possible. Not that I ever did it. I've just heard about it before. The gun that is. Man I have waaaay too much time on my hands.

I have always figured one of these reasons (in no particular order) .. It kicks too hard, it doesn't get used because you have other rifles that already do the job in that catagory, You did an impulse buy and bought something you didn't need, You need the money for any of a number of reasons more than the firearm.

impulse buy would be my guess. I did that quite a few times and each rifle does have its place and purpose, but a cpl get sighted in and left in the safe, while my "all-purpose go to guns" get taken hunting.

Last time I traded guns I had a barely used rem 700 that I would never use again as I would have a difficult time going deer hunting. I was looking for a pistol and ended trading with a fellow I met on here.

Even thought that may be the truth, you should never admit it unless you are a licensed dealer!
Buying a gun for the sole purpose of resale for profit is illeagel unless you are a licensed dealer!

It’s kinda like asking… why does my wife buy new shoes that will never see the light of day, or buy a purse and use it for one weekend, or maybe get a new swim suit only to say “it makes me look fat”. The world my never know?

Nope they aint all licensed dealers!
If they are buying for the sole purpose of resale for profit then they are breaking the law though! Simple as that!
Of course most of them are doing just that, the problem is proving it! However if you come on here and tell someone that you bought something to resale it, then you just proved thier case for them!

Okay, I'm lazy and didn't read all the replies. Plus I'm in a time zone that's 14 hours ahead of CST. Here's one from me. If I come across a deal that is good, I'll often buy the gun just for that reason. I may never even intend to shoot it. When I find something else I want and don't have the cash, I'll go back to one of my "good deal" guns and sell/trade for the next "have to have".
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

Thanks for the link. Since I am not a "Dealer nor engaged in the business" I never thought about it being against the law. I think it is clear most of us are covered in Section 921(a)21)(C) . Tkx RR

I don't sell many. Sold a Kel-Tec not because there was anything wrong with it. I just flat out didn't like it.
Same thing with the M-500 I'm selling. Nothing wrong with it at all. I'm just tired of pumps and upgrading to a s/a
