Sorry for the noob question but I'm new to the optics world. So I bought an AR last year and found a deal on a scope at cabelas couldn't pass up (over half off for display model) it's a Nikon p223 fixed at 3x. I've hunted pigs and coyotes and it seems as if the scope makes the object look smaller than with the naked eye and I can't hit anything it seems. Granted I hunt mainly at night but at the range she drives tacks. My question: can a magnifier be used along with a regular old rifle scope. Most guys use them with a red dot or the like. I love the size and compactness of the scope and the lenses are very clear is only reason for consideration. I would like a flip to side magnifier to quickly go from short to longer ranges. Second question. Does the scope go in front or behind the magnifier, I've seen both. Again sorry if these are no brainers but my research brings me nothing. Thanks

The easy answer is NO. Because of the eye relief of the fixed 3X, putting another 3x magnifier behind it will give you some weird looking object. I have a friend who tried that exact thing with the same fixed scope you have.

I know this will sound stupid but are you sure it's not backwards? I have the same scope and mine doesn't make the objects smaller.

How could it make the object smaller if it's a 3X?

beats me titan. keep in mind I am talking at ranges of 100 yards or more. The object just seems bigger and not as far away to the naked eye as it does when i look through the scope. with the naked eye I am better off than with the scope as far as target aquiring. I have a simmons 9x I believe it is and i can count the hairs on a pig with that thing I love it.

I'd look through the scope from the barrel end (PLEASE DO THIS SAFELY, NO BODY PARTS IN BARREL'S AREA, AND GUN UNLOADED). It sounds stupid to do, but I just can't see any other reasoning unless the scope was built incorrectly or it's mounted backwards.
