For some reason, my gsp won't fetch her decoy anymore. We went to the lake to do swim lessons normally she fetches every time no hitches. I was using her ecollar to correct her, she would swim out to the decoy chest bump it and come back. So we stopped. Yesterday, throwing the decoy in the yard, same thing! Toss the decoy she obeys the commands but won't pick up the decoy. Any help would be appreciated, dove season opens this coming monday!

I was using her ecollar to correct her Can you expand on this line? It seems to me that if you're using the e-collar to correct her, but that correction isn't making her fetch, then something is missing here. 1) She doesn't know what to do with that pressure because she dog isn't really force fetched so that correction has no meaning 2) (this is just a guess) it sounds like she may be unwilling to pick up the bumper- have you used the collar in a way that's made her afraid to grab it? I would likely remove the pressure and play some retrieving games. When she loves retrieving again then revisit a full force fetch. But I'm an amateur operating on limited information. So take that with a grain of salt.

Yeah I think using the collar scared her. She's 10 months. Everything was going great till I used the collar

I was using the collar to nick her when there was other people around, she would swim out grab the decoy then bolt to run check out random people coming to the boat ramp where we were doing her swim lessons, I would zap her when she would bolt, say come and she would come back, now she won't fetch.

I'll take a Black Female every time.

Sounds like she is associating the having the decoy in her mouth, with getting necked. I never nick one of my young dogs on a retrieve, until they have been force fetched.
Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden. Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

Responses to both... I've used the collar twice, both times she did not like it at all. And yes I believe she's associating the decoy in the mouth with the nick, but I only nick her when she needs to be refocused. Never nicked her when she has the decoy

The first time I zapped her, she went to hide in the bushes, the second time she jumped on the hood of my truck. But she listens better now, but won't pick up the decoy

I would put the shock collar away until you get some help from a pro. It sounds like she has not been properly introduced and it has already caused problems that will only get worse.
I'll take a Black Female every time.

When I got my first dog, I read all over that e-collers have ruined many good dogs.
My dogs seem about 100x more sensitive to the e-collar when they are wet. Start with a low zap and only go as high as required.
I would do like stated above, remove collar and have fun in a controlled environment.

Yeah I've used the collar twice recently in 9 months of training her, and now she's afraid of the decoy it seems. I'm gone for work for a few days, so when I get back IL try fetch w a ball and see if we can't get back to the decoy.

Zapped?? Do your puppy (yes she is a puppy) a favor and put the e collar in the drawer. You need to follow a formal training program or seek help. Your dog is not collar conditioned, force fetched, or obedience trained by the sounds of things. My advice would be to not take her to the dove field. Go hunt and then come back and train.
Good luck

Get the puppy video by Bill Hillman. Maybe you need to start using the ecollar as a positive instead of a negative tool.

Good luck Tony said it right. Obedience first, then force fetch or have it done by a pro. All in a controlled environment to start.

Well good news! She's retrieving again. Played outside w her brought out the decoy she was timid at first, but once she brought it back the first time she did it every time. Went to the lake to fish and she got to play w another dog. Gona take it easy to get her back to normal. Seems like she's more obedient now too.

Update.... Pup is doing great! Brought her dove hunting, im actaully taking it easy in the truck right now. Day one she swam out and brought one back, after the first one she was ready, 4 birds retrieved day 1! Ive never trained a dog period. Day 2 pup was tired from the day b4, soon as she woke up, it was on! She got 4 more and one was where she had to use her nose to hunt the bird up!
