Trying to buy a Hoyt compound bow. It's the Hoyt Vulcan xt500. The guy wants 150 for it.

Only thing wrong is that the strings broke, but says limbs are in great shape

Hoyt makes some very good bows, no experience with that one but am always worried about a bow that has strings/cables broken. Most of the time when I see those the bow has been dry fired which can not only break strings and cables but bend cams and crack limbs. Some times the limbs do not show cracks until they fail under stress of being drawn and shot. Also looking at another $100+ for string and cable to be installed and timed.

Yeah Im with the nod to pass too. Time you get it it "equiped" you have equal money for a newer bow. Dont be fooled there are so many good starter bows out there that blow away what we had just a short hand full of years ago! Plus the classifieds and members here post some deals too!

New to THF

I picked up a Diamond Infinty Edge last year and it has been great. I gave 350.00 for it at bass pro and it came with everything but arrows and a release. It's in no way as nice as the high end bows my buddy's shoot but it flings an arrow just about as fast and it hits where I aim it. I would recommend it to anyone looking to get in the game!

I was like you last year, and I bought an older used bow for 150.. Within 3 months I upgraded to a new Diamond Archery Infinite Edge Camo Compound-Bow Package... Was just under 300 and is an awesome bow! I love it and wish I would have just bought what I wanted to start with. Go ahead and do research and get what you want from the start. This bow is adjustable from 5lbs to 70 lbs and 13" draw to 31" draw. It will fit anyone.

String breaking is like a dry fire in my opinion.

Diamond is made by Bowtech, so they have some solid history behind them. I bought my son the Infinite Edge a few years ago and he has grown about 6" and 100 pounds, that particular bow is adjustable and has been able to grow with him.

I got the Cabela's Instigator for a little more than the Diamond, both ready to hunt. Once I started looking, the Instigator is the same frame by Bowtech as the Diamond, it has different limbs and cams. I will say, once we started shooting alot, we have upgraded the arrow rest (went with a biscuit) and the pin sight (got a lighted sight) and it has made a significant difference.
